We had a freind who was a dog trainer who always said border collie arent dogs they are border collies. Her day job was a veterinary nurse and also said the dogs that bit most were border collies and Jack Russells - shame we have both plus a devil dog otherwise known as a staffie well shes a staffie cross really. We have never been bitten yet by any of them except when they get a bit enthusiastic with treats.
Collies can turn with very little warning. We have had 2 and our old one who died several years ago was a horrendous when we got him, totally dog aggressive , chased cars, wouldnt walk properly on a lead and when we first had him he wouldnt even eat from a bowl. I had to literally throw his food on the kitchen floor for him to scavenge. He also had an untreated broken jaw which had set wonky. It was thought by the rescue that he had come from a travellers camp. By the time he died about 5 years later my husband could walk him off lead throgh the centre of our local town without him straying from his side. I dont think the one we have now will get to that stage because for a collie he is thick but very loving.

It is thought that our current dog and his brother are from a travellers site in Lincolnshire.

He hates vans and pick ups and people in high vis gear. Myself included. I can't wear my site gear in his presence 😕

We hope he will accept a motorhome as something different to a van 🤔

I can just stare at his close up. His curly fur is gorgeous.
He's one of those dogs that looks like there's a human inside  - like pandas and apes. Very human expressions.
What a shame he has some fears. My SIL had a border collie rescued from mistreatment. She had so many phobias, could never settle and did turn a few times, but so loving as well and just so darn grateful for love. Even a slightly raised voice or if you lifted your arm to wave, she went belly down crying in terror and that was after 11 years of safety - so sad.

We used to work with a small local rescue and fostered for them. Many of the dogs we had could be very aggressive. The one I remember most was a staffie who had been kept in a crate for 23hours a day. She was the only staff we had that could be aggressive. However we managed to turn her around and rehome her successfully to a lovely family. Ill teatment leaves its mark but can often be overcome with time and patience. My staffie x. Is a very frightened dog even after 5years with us. She is very happy and loving in the house but super vigilant when out and about. It took me 13months to get her to walk on a lead, she would simply refuse to walk because she was so scared. Fortunately we have a green area literally outside our front door so we could just open the door and let her run. To get her in the car I spent ages sitting in it with treats encouraging her day after day. She jumps in happily now.

Re border collies, that's one type of dog I tell an occupant to keep outside if I'm inspecting a property, they are very unpredictable ime. Jack Russells, Staffies, Old English Sheepdog, Alsations/ German Shepherd, Rottweiler and Dobermann are all on 'the list' haha. Some small poodles have some weird small dog syndrome so do some Yorkshire terriers.

What makes my laugh on here you all seem to have rescue dogs you've turned around into good pets. We properly researched getting a dog, spent a lot of money on right lines / health tests etc and my dog is an absolute !!!!!!. Never aggressive just massively spoilt his whole life from the start not even kidding the breeders slept in the same room as the mum and pups for about 5 weeks lol all the socialisation etc but 100 doesn't know how good he's had it.

@warby68 ha think that's what it is, he definitely has human qualities.

Rescue dogs often seem to be grateful because they know the bad side of life whereas you have admitted yours is spoilt. Be consistent with him and train him every day and at every oppurtunity and you will turn him round. The expression NILF comes to mind. Nothing in life is free, in other words ha has to work for everything.
With regards to your avoidance list small dogs are often worse because some people don't see the need to train them. Staffies, unless they have been taught to be aggressive, are more likely to lick you to death. Collies as said can turn instantly so be wary. The rest of the bigger dogs are generally OK but can seem scary by their size and loud barks. To be honest though any dog can turn so if you are entering their territory always be wary and remember they are protecting their owners and home.

    Happy Monday everyone.

Not a no spends day today. The other half is taking a load of stuff to the post office to post off to it's new owners.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be from stores. Breakfast was apple and cinnamon hot cross buns, lunch will be jacket potato with veggie chilli and dinner tonight is roast pork in black bean sauce with wholewheat noodles made with the leftovers from last night's roast dinner.

    Todays jobs include:
    • working from home
    • vacuuming the house
    • dusting the house
    • walking the dog
The other half is off work this week. His jobs today are popping to the post office, planting the lavender hedge along the back of the patio and planting a couple of Blue Fescue, walking the dog and planting the chilli's.

The council tax bill has just landed on the door mat. That's gone up of course, £5 extra per month this time.
