I think this depends on how long the OP is staying for.

If 7 nights or so then yes, its just an inconvenience that they can find a way around.

If its a weekend - then I wouldn't be happy, I have a cottage booked for this weekend, check in is 2pm, I would be very annoyed if it changed to 7pm and would want to cancel and book something else.

I am hoping to spend the day on the beach and have the cottage to get changed in, have lunch in etc, not having ot available until evening would effectively take a full afternoon out of a 2 day stay!

I've noticed a number of places aren't currently offering short breaks. Probably down to the additional time and cost involved.
  • OP has left, but my advice would be to try to get in touch with property owners directly. Explain you have a young baby and ask if they could clean kitchen first and you would only use that room  alone until cleaners were finished.

When we stayed self catering recently I asked politely what wriggle room there was around arrival and departure and managed to reach a decent compromise.
The owner of the cottage we have booked rung us this week. During the conversation apologised for the late check in time (6 pm).  Saying that a thorough clean was taking far longer than they originally anticipated. They put the health and safety of their guests first. Good to hear that some people actually care. Too easy to cut corners without anyone knowing.
They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I even saw a few people complaining in the BBC News article about restrictions NOT being applied to Portugal (in England at least) that there were no restrictions being applied.  All because they jumped the gun and bought repatriation flights ahead of the Government announcement, that were now unnecessary.  And it was somehow the Governments fault!  Are these people for real?

The world has gone completely mad, I've never seen anything like it.
  • So I work away a lot and often book an over night stay, given that people here think that as long as it's overnight the length of time doesn't matter, I assume if the checkin time is changed to 23:59 and checkout bu 00:01 that would be OK. I know it's a daft argument, but the point is 1 nights stay isn't defined, what is defined when I book is the time I can checkin and the time I have to leave, any changes to that are a change to what I booked.

Strawman argument - nobody is denying that different checkin/out times are a change (this is factually indisputable), the matter under discussion is whether they're a material change that's significant enough to trigger cancellation/refund rights, so inventing a ridiculous extreme doesn't really shine any light on the issue....

  • Can I just ask?  What does 'deleted user' mean?   They have deleted themselves Or they have been deleted?   This whole thread is a total waste of peoples' opinions as far as I can see.   I started saying mountains/molehills.... not changed my views.
  • They will have actually asked to be deleted. All because nobody was agreeing with her.

Probably upset that people on the whole did not agree with her view point.
