While they were shielding and unable to withdraw cash themselves, I withdrew cash from my bank account, gave it to my parents and they gave me a cheque which I then paid into my account (via banking app) to replace the cash withdrawn.

    Shielding has ended.
Shielding hasn't ended. Lockdown has ended. My family and I are still shielding simply because a high number of people are still dying from Covid where I live.
You can't be living in the UK then.

Why does she need cash?  Its entirely possible to do without it these days, I don't think I've touched a banknote this year!  More secure too.
  • I got money out for a neighbour during lockdown and I refused to take her card.

we got around the situation by me withdrawing the money needed & her giving me a cheque

When the bank say 'it's not allowed', what they really mean is that 'if the card and PIN are given to someone else to use, don't come whining to us for your money back if fraudulent use results'. That's all: it's technical breach of the t and c's.
Make sure as many of the services as possible that she needs to pay for are on DD, reduce cash requirements to the minimum.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Please can we not get into that debate.
  • Just rebutting the above post about ‘loads of
people Dying in the U.K. ’ above. No debate intended
  • This might not work either but I am wondering if she has a mobile that can use a banking app.  I do a lot of transactions by paying money into accounts directly.  Or getting a simple tablet, and putting the app on that.  A lot of people who can't cope with pcs find they can use tablets.
