Someone has been getting money for her using her bank card and pin, but the bank tells me that isn't allowed. How do you get money out if you can't go to the bank and don't use the internet? It's leaving the person on very dodgy ground if they are a victim of fraud, especially if it's fraud at an ATM.A better solution would be to get someone set up with Power of attorney for the housebound person - they can then request a debit card of their own for the persons account ( from my recollection the card shows the holders name with 'POA other person' underneath) and then legitimately use it to withdraw money from an ATM or purchase items.3

Your mother could give you a cheque to pay into your account and you could get the money out of your bank for her when she needs it.

The old fashioned way is write out a cheque, instruct the helper to deposit the cheque and draw the cash from their own account. Or the money could be bank transferred over. The modern way. Some banks let you generate a one-time cash withdrawal code, using their mobile banking app or possibly via telephone banking, that can then be put into that bank's cash machines. That code can safely be given to a helper since it's only good once for that particular amount. But if your mother can't leave the house, why does she even need significant amounts of cash?0

It’s not free to live, even in your own house0 -
Yes but why do these transactions have to be in cash? However assuming the mother wants to continue using cash then the simplest way is to continue the current arrangement.2

When my mother was alive, she made her account a joint account in both our names, with the full approval of the bank. That meant I could pay all her bills and manage her money. Obviously there has to be a strong degree of trust, but that also applies with a power of attorney, and has been said before, LPAs are rather more complicated and expensive.1
