I'm trying to sell my car - please help!
I have a 2010 Volkswagen Polo, which goes for just under £4000 on Autotrader.
I have a couple of minor issues on the car, and wanted to know your opinions on/advice with these issues.
I have a couple of minor issues on the car, and wanted to know your opinions on/advice with these issues.
- There are a few scratches on the rear bumper of the car, shown in the picture, which I don't know whether to repair (cost to car vs money gained). Could this be classed as wear and tear, or would I need to pay to get this repaired/buy a repair kit before I list the car for sale?

- There are a couple of small issues in the car. Firstly, the sun visor mirror has a crack on the left hand side, and secondly, the electric mirror adjustment doesn't work for the right wing mirror. Neither of these really affect how usable the car is as both features are barely ever used, and I expect it would cost around £70 to get both fixed. Is it worth me fixing?

It's hard to quantify how an issue might make people pay less but it might make people walk away without making an offer at all.
The mirror adjustment would only not affect those that don't bother using their mirrors. So I would say that is a must fix. You're quibbling about spending £70 when you want thousands. Not a good sign.2 -
Very fair point - I think the mirrors are worth fixingMercdriver said:It's hard to quantify how an issue might make people pay less but it might make people walk away without making an offer at all.

£4,000 sounds an awful lot for a 10 year old Polo and I'm not sure you will get anywhere near that (look at EBay prices for what they really sell for) anyway to receive top dollar for your car it will need to be pristine and only you can decide if that is worth the expense and hassle.3

Looks like 2010 polos are advertised around £3800 when sold by the trade ,a private sale would need to be quite a bit less IMO.
have you tried TCut ( or alternative) on the rear bumper it may help a bit although looks like a lot of paint is missing, other than that I dont think it’s worth repairing.
does the mirror still adjust manually0 -
The bumper repair might not add value but not having it sorted might put a possible buyer off. Get a quote or two before deciding. Also do the obvious - make sure it's vacuumed and pristine (as much as possible) inside. Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!0

There are only four black ones listed for less on AutoTrader, which I assume are desperate sellersThe_Rainmaker said:£4,000 sounds an awful lot for a 10 year old Polo and I'm not sure you will get anywhere near that (look at EBay prices for what they really sell for) anyway to receive top dollar for your car it will need to be pristine and only you can decide if that is worth the expense and hassle.0 -
I'd be happy to go lower to be honest, I should've specified and said I will list the car at £4000 expecting to sell it for lessphotome said:Looks like 2010 polos are advertised around £3800 when sold by the trade ,a private sale would need to be quite a bit less IMO.

I haven't tried anything on the rear bumper at all, its my first car so I haven't done cosmetic repairs before
Yes, the mirrors adjust manually0 -
Or they are realistic. There are many for sale much less than £4000 and 3 years newerdakofsta said:

There are 230 non-write-off 2010 Polos on Autotrader.
30 of them are private sales. 14 of those are £4k+.
However, looking down those, the first (£4.1k) has been on the market since May... There's two or three since June, a good few July. They are being advertised, but they are not selling at that price...
Another 10 are between £2,500 and £3,500...
Give us more details on spec and mileage, we can narrow down a more likely price range.0 -
I wouldnt worry about the mirror then , of course it’s your call though. T cut may make the bumper look a little better but prob not much to be honest.dakofsta said:
