For us, we have been with BG for ever since I can recall, we have our heating via them and a service plan - we nneded them a couple of times over a 15 odd year, 10/10. Everest, no cheap by any standards but nor are their goods and the and they too get a 10/10.0 -
Ah .... Ted Moult.
Reminds me of an old joke about him departing his mortal coil.0 -

Stella in this country isn't even as strong as it is meant to be. Originally it was 5.2%. Now 4.8% and they sell a 4% version for UK market. Less duty paid, same price at the pumps - more dishonesty3

I can't see Green Motion negotiating on the insurance excess, though it's free so worth trying.
The OP signed up to that level of excess and if these contracts were flexible or negotiable on the level of damage/cost of repair/excess you could have ended up with a massive bill if there were greater damage or you wrote the car off.
The excess level won't be just for the repair, the car is an asset to the company, if it's not on hire because it's in for repair, it's not making money and someone within the company will have to spent time sorting out the repair and the paperwork for their insurance. If they decide not to repair it, the costs come with a loss of value when it's moved on.
The excess and the premium the company pays their insurance company will also increase the more claims they make for damage just like our own insurance. So if you think what a similar claim on your own insurance would cost you in the long run (you'll pay excess on a fault claim and suffer an increase in premium for x amount of years and loss of no claims discount) £600 doesn't seem too steep and if you wrote off a £25,000 car, it's a bit of a bargain.
If this was a sharp practice, scam or a mistake, it's happened.
My first post offered advise on how to help stop it happening in future.
If they have been pirates it's only because of something we haven't done properly.
You might think that was using Green Motion in the first place, but if you carry on being blasé about what you're signing up for, it's not going to stop anyone else.

Just to be clear, we are talking about 2 things, A, the damage which 'could' have been done in my care if someone came to my house, went round the other side of the car and kicked the car, then wiped down any marks. The would have had to have dodged a camera though. I accept that I did not notice it beforehand when picking up the car. My stupid mistake. B, The cost of the damage. This is not a dent that needs to be filled, there is no paintwork damage. All somebody needed to do was pull the door a little to re-align. 2 bodyshops have estimated 5 mins from my pics. I advise full 360 in and out video for anyone hiring a car, especially from GM.0

Plus the lost hire revenue for having the car out of service for a day at least.
GM are awful and I won't use them for the reasons you've experienced. But I don't think you have many options here.

Daniel, have you heard of car hire excess insurance, you still have to pay the hire car excess but then claim it back from the insurance policy - I had one last year for about £50 covering worldwide excluding USA. The only odd thing was it didn't cover theft and nor did hire car policy. For obvious reasons I've not renewed it at the moment.Originally Posted by shortcrust

I’ve hired with Green Motion a few times, I always have my own excess cover. I took one car back & they noticed a scuffed alloy, I was very careful with the car & couldn’t remember scuffing the wheel. The guy went to check his records & came back saying it’s ok it was already there. Another time I took a car back, I had noticed a scratch on the rear door which wasn’t there before. They noticed it & said the manager would call me the next day. He never called & I kept my deposit.
Don’t believe everything you hear about Green Motion, but I would never use Goldcar when I’m in Spain.

The damage might have existed and was missed when the car was booked in last, after all you say it was hard to spot.
(It seems odd that they would purposely sting you for something they could have stung the last hirer for)
Then when you've returned it, they noticed it.
They, as you have, make mistakes.
Theirs was missing the damage when it was last booked in, your's for not spotting it before you took delivery.0
