Green motion scam (I know)
Comments

Dear OP
I will cut through the chase, you have to pay up, no ifs, no buts, they will make you pay. Lear from it. Sounds harsh but it's a fair comment and hopefully others will read about your plight and steer clear.
honestly, I do feel for you.

But greenmotion have been in business for years. According to your methodology, that makes them jolly nice fellows to do business with. After all, they are profitable.sweetsand said:Dear OP

In all seriousness, it might be a fruitless effort to fight the liability, but Green Motion can still be forced to minimise the cost of the repair. They have to demonstrate to court level that they have done all they reasonably can to get best value. Therefore they cannot simply take it to BMW main dealer and charge the OP for it.
OP - did you get photos of the damage yourself? Tell Green Motion that you wish to get estimates done yourself to ensure they keep the cost down.0 -
It's not me that didn't check the car properly and got billed for existing damage, yet I get called naive.DoaM said:

(It seems odd that they would purposely sting you for something they could have stung the last hirer for)
I'd hate to imagine what you think of the OP?
The OP admits the damage was hard to spot, it doesn't seem beyond reason someone else would miss it as well.
I've used Green Motion and Goldcar without trouble, more times than I can remember.
I know that both tend to be very picky rather than tricky with some things, more so than some other companies. I've seen other customers get slapped with excess cleaning charges, but when you have a look at the mess they leave the insides in, I would charge them too.
I've also seen near riots at the Hertz desk at TGD when they tried to charge a load of customers for short fueling as they didn't keep the receipt or use the nearest filling station.
You pay your money and take your chances, you just need to try and reduce your risk with any of them.

I wasn't explicitly having a go at you or how you would handle such situations - I was commenting on the specific point you made ... companies like this boost profits by finding issues and charging multiple (unobservant) customers for the same issues. It is naive to think they don't.
And for the benefit of her ladyship (I think we all know who I mean) ... yes, I think this is dishonest too.

I just think we only ever hear the "bad" about hire companies like Green Motion as it's the nature of things. No one really posts about good experiences and I'm sure there are many others than just me.
I understand some companies might have a few sharp practices but these bad posts tend to alter our normal perceptions.
Does no one think the OP might have caused the damage and not noticed or the car was damaged parked up while in the OP's possession or the damage was missed off the last return?
No, we all see Green Motion, damage, excess charges and think scam.
If it was a scam, it was a pretty easy one to negate and if people are being scammed, the bad posts don't seem to be effecting their business much or changing their practices.
Perhaps a different approach will result in a change of practice for these companies, so perhaps we all say the OP was a bad hiree and wasn't diligent enough, if you're going to use these companies, do what's expected of you and check more thoroughly.
If more people did that, that particular scam would end.1 -
I think the other poster just likes being rude to others as IMO you have said nothing wrong/rude as in actual fact it's a very good post. Thank you.Goudy said:

Cherry picking posts to reply to again I see, conveniently overlooking the post where I clarified what I meant and was not in any way rude to Goudy.sweetsand said:

I was going to report your post but I've decided instead to put you on ignore.#
Edit: Oh wow ... other than seeing her posts quoted this board looks soooooo much better!

I have given advice to the OP in how to minimise the cost. How have you done so? Did you suggest that the OP make sure that the hirer gets more than one quotation in order to keep costs reasonable as a County Court would expect them to? No you haven't. You've just given false platitudes that do nothing more than to boost your post count - why I don't know.sweetsand said:
You willfully undermine many threads and this is just another example. In what way does that help the OP, it just does not.Mercdriver said:

The hire company is not under any duty to repair the car, but the amount they charge should be in line with reasonable costs for doing so. It my well be that multiple people are charged for the same damage and why it's so critical to check and record for damage when picking up, though avoiding the worst firms is probably the primary requirement, the tenner saved in hire costs comes back as several hundred in damages. Rental company can justify simply by saying the damage will reduce the value of the car when they come to sell.1
