  • I cannot see why, with so much notice, you managed to be late in your return.

HMRC won't look at your return and calculate a grant because the rules of the scheme, as devised by the government, simply don't allow it. HMRC didn't make those rules but are bound to abide by them. If you really feel you have a special case, try contacting your MP - although, at this late stage, I wouldn't expect any changes to be made - as no-one else will be able to do anything to get the system amended.
    It's not difficult!
'Wander' - to walk or move in a leisurely manner.
    'Wonder' - to feel curious.
  • I think it was generous of hmrc to extend the deadline for late submission to start with as it was wide open for fraud (people who would have been over 50k average to have had a bad year to bring them under, those whose income was lower to have had a bumper year to boost the grant)
If you missed the extension then I am afraid that is it. They wont extend it again. It sounds harsh but otherwise where does it end? They gave an extension with a firm cut off date to give people who were late a chance to sort themselves out. That date was missed. I know it is an expensive error but that is it.

@hb2 yeah someone else to suggest that contacting an MP thanks for the advice and being the only one who's not talking from a consending conceited point-of-view on here
  • I think it is more realism rather than condescending and conceited.
You can try but your chance of getting anything is slim to none and you need to prepare for that.

and if I could even afford an accountant
Well I guess if as you say you missed on on about £13k in grants you would have trading profits of nearly £30k so you could probably afford an accountant.

I'm going to have to pay extra tax to compensate this grant next year,
I imagine as you're not getting the grant you'll be paying less tax next year as your earnings will be less as you've been affected by Covid
