Seiss grant no help
I would like to claim the siess grant I am a self-employed electrician have been for over 20-years on the CIS scheme I have been unable to claim the s e i s s Grant because my tax return was late I missed the deadline of 23rd of April but I think it's really unfair that if you missed the deadline even though you've paid all your tax and NI why you no longer exist on the system to be able to calculate your average earnings to give you a grant like everybody else has received the only thing they will give you you for existing on the system is a fine for a late return which is is not fair because we're all suffering in the same way some of us more than others especially having to pay the fines with no extra money I rang the the HMRC ,I asked for a logical reason why you can't get the Grant if your tax return is late but the information comes in in and is on the computer to verify they told me that it's because they're worried about fraud after that deadline I asked them why can't they check my years of history to confirm that it is not fraud, I really think that this issue needs to be looked at because this is a massive punishment for having a late tax return it's cost me about £13,000 that I'm not allowed to claim that everybody else is allowed to claim I can't go back in the past and change what happened but I had problems that i could not get the tax return in on time some of it was down to the HMRC computer system I really think this needs looking at because they've made quite a few people who have put their tax returns in late non-existent anymore meaning they won't look at their evidence of earnings on the computer because they don't see them as existing only to pay fines

Sorry if this is harsh but the only person to blame for this is yourself. The Government extended the deadline to submit your tax returns but you even missed that. It doesn't matter how much you complain, or what you do, you will not qualify for the SEISS grant. A hard lesson to learn but always make sure you submit those returns on time.

If you've been self employed for over 20 years, then I would have thought that by now you would have had enough time to get organised to submit it by 31/1?
The online system may not be perfect, but it certainly wasn't down for the entire 11 week extension period that you were granted after the original deadline-which itself is nearly 9 months from the end of the tax year in question. So in total you had 1 year and 17 days to submit it, if you are using the tax year as your business accounting period. No free lunch, and no free laptop6 -
Self employed for over 20 years and you can't get your tax returns managed in a timely manner ? Come on 😣
There is no way an established self employed person conducts their business this way, if you do you have no place complaining you didn't get a grant.
You give us self employed a bad name 😣3 -
For all the people judging from their high horse about me being late with my cis tax returns I'm not the first person to be late and I'm not the last person who will be late and all my tax and ni was payed at source so I owed HMRC no money I was actually owed rebates and before you carry on judging you don't know my circumstances and why they were late and if I could even afford an accountant or weather I tried to do the returns myself needless to say if all the returns are up to date now tax and ni payed there should be no reason for the HMRC not to be able to look on the computer and calculate the average earnings from the information from the tax returns, the excuse that anything past that deadline could be fraud is rubbish I've been in thier system for over 20 years all they have to do is check the history to assatain it's not fraud0

If you think i was judging i wasn't, you can do whatever you see fit to do.
What i was doing was criticising your anger at HMRC's standpoint aswell as your seemingly lackadaisical attitude to business 😣0 -
I'm upset at HMRC because there is no logical reason to not looking at late tax returns to work out the average earnings especially since the grant has been extended my tax and ni has been payed just like the next man I went through hardships because of covid just like the next man, to look on thier computer to work out average earnings at a later stage should not be such a chore also considering there is more time now due to the extension of the grant, I'm just not buying the fraud exuse,if they want to give me fines they can for sure find out I'm registered on thier system in that case0

There is a reason, they set the criteria, you don’t meet it because your tax return was late. The only reason you are whinging is because you know you are at fault, there’s nothing you can do, move on.1

You can't even come up with a logical reason just that they set the criteria where is the logic in it especially in something as serious as this could be life changing and I'm going to have to pay extra tax to compensate this grant next year, it's just not being reasonable considering the seriousness of the situation and you can keep going back to it was my fault yes I accept that but their should be some compromise because it's not a major about of work for the HMRC to check the records they have now to make the grant available0

Catsacor you actually sound like a jobsworth who works for the HMRC and has 0 compassion in I'm alright jack forget about you unless you owe us money0
-
@jimbob11, whatever the reason, you were late in submitting your return.
You missed the deadline which was very well publicised so why should HMRC make an exception ?
Unless you were physically incapacitated for the whole of the extension period, then you have no case.
