Getting a locking wheel nut key

Error on my part - bought car without locking wheel nut key and only realised yesterday.

2 obvious options to me:
1) go to Ford (it's a 56 Mondeo if that helps?) and pay what I've read on Google is pushing £100
2) it's booked in for MOT in a couple week so get the mechanic to do it at risk of damaging alloy. 

Is there another option? I read about needing a car key code. I found an 8 digit key code in the owners book. Is there somewhere you can pick up the suitable key at a reasonable cost with this code maybe?

    It's a 14yo Mondeo. Is somebody REALLY going to be nicking your wheels and tyres?

    If the answer is no (and, let's be honest, it is), then just get hold of four non-locking bolts, and pay a tyre place a small amount to remove the lockers. A tenner in the tea fund for five minutes work for them, end of problem for you. Every tyre place has locking-bolt removal tools, and the wheel won't be damaged.

    I took them off on my peugeot and fitted ordinary wheel bolts. didnt fancy being stuck on the m4 with a flat tyre and cant get the wheel off! you cant tell it doesnt have lwb because it has chrome nut covers. people dont steal wheels n tyres these days anyway. not like they used to.

    Celary the poster is not saying that, it's common sense to have the key to any locking nuts as when you get a puncture, one will be required.

    If you are considering getting a mechanic to remove the locking nuts, I would suggest getting done now rather than waiting a couple of weeks until the MOT is due.
    It's sod's law that between now and then you will get a puncture and if you can't get the wheel changed at the roadside, it could end up costing you a lot more than someone would charge to do the work in the next day or two.

    Where did you buy the car from? and how long ago?
    Have you tried contacting the previous owner to ask if they still have the key
  • Comes in to thread to read replies. 

    Gets impression those replying think I WANT locking wheel nuts despite me not saying this at all. 

    I also won't get a puncture - it's currently not being used. So unless someone slashes my tyres or something.

    Previous owner doesn't have it / can't find it. 

    Just wondered if a key could be picked up relatively cheaply (so that I can remove them without damage and then replace with normal wheel nuts).

    Don't bother getting "the right key", if you're binning them. Just get them removed by a tyre place - they have the removal sockets.

    Do you have a car breakers near to where you live?
    This must be something that they come across on a very regular basis and they may well have a good selection of keys and if you pop in with a clear photo of the nut, they may be able to lend you the correct key (possibly for a small donation into their beer fund).

    £45 and they state that the code isn't needed, just a clear photo of the nut.

    Now re-read what I wrote.

    I'm asking if there's any point in having lockers on there, vs just plain bolts. Then you don't need a key in the future.

    I therefore stand by my statment and add to ensure you understand what I said previously, it's nothing to do with "nicking" the wheels/tyres..
    What was the point of your first sentence other than you meant what you posted.

    No they don't. Thy can also damage the thread on the spindel and that will be  massive problem. Try a main dealer, if you are lucky, may cost you nothing if they have a key, or a few quid might seem expensive but cheaper than having your hub spinnle snapped/etc.
