    Hi
A word of caution - that car needs very deep pockets to run - just the brake pads cost hundreds of pounds. If it breaks down for an eltrical fault, just finding that fault may cost hundreds  - it is a very, very expensive car to run and I for one would not have something like that unless i had very deep pockets.

"If you can't afford it new, you can't afford it used".

Unfortunately, this sounds like a dodgy car from a dodgy dealer and they've almost certainly done this before. I'd be trying to return it before they phoenix and also pursue the MOT garage through VoSA, as there's no way it'd have passed the MOT.
You may find the MOT investigation may be enough to get them to just take the car back, but it's unlikely.

I had that car on Saved list on Autotrader, to see how much it takes to sell it. Whoever thinks of buying S8, should know, this model is not the best option and awfully expensive to run.
We probably need more details, where was it bought from, was there test drive, etc. I think rejection is best way to proceed. S75 won't work, because car wasn't bought by OP but his son.
It is very expensive to maintain even if it does not break down as i said earlier the brake pads are close to 600 quid if I recall rightly

that car is an audi but with the heart of a super sports cars - we had an S4 Avant years ago - the first time I drove that I thought it was a jet fight, a family eastae with subtle spoty looks but a lion heart.  We sold it after two years becuse it was coming up to new pads and discus all round and a makor, major service plus the insurace was very high and unlike the 911 we have now, the RS4 avant gave to a flase sense of lwer speds eG travelling at 70 felt like doing 40 in an ordinary merc S calss or audi A4 etc

Not really unbelievable. It's car model that's expensive to run and someone wanted to get rid of it, instead of fixing. And young, naive person bought it.  I would say, it's typical story.

The bit about driving it with a detached brake pipe and having an oil and fuel leak so bad the garage had to use a fire extinguisher, with their son apparently not noticing any of this seems to stretch all bounds of credibility. I've driven plenty of £50 bangers where the brakes have been so shot you carried a bottle of brake fluid around to top it up before you came home from work and where the rocker cover gasket was so shot it spewed so much oil over the exhaust manifold it set solid and believe me you cannot drive cars like that without noticing something major is wrong.

I think its a fake story. Low level chef blows all his savings on an old S8. Group 48E to insure, almost £600 VED.

I am sure if you found all the brake pipes had broken off the calipers you would want your loved one to drive it straight away back to the garage.
