Depends what is at the back and the house layout. I have north facing but there are no buildings behind as it is a crescent and basically backs on to a row of gardens. So no shadow and it gets sun all day in the summer. If the garden is short and backs on to another house it may be more of an issiue. Certainly does not dtop stuff growing, I am forever thinning out.!Carl2510 said:What’s everyone’s view on south facing garden? A must or not
Equally important the living room is at the front so gets lots of sun and on a winters day is warm enough to sit in without heating.
Downsides the kitchen at the back is colder but I don't like a hot kitchen. No sun on the patio but the garden is landscaped to have a seating area where it does get the sun.
Personally I think the effect on light inside is more important than outside as I spend more time inside.0 -
I’d much rather have the front door open into the living room and have all that hallway space for living in. It obviously depends on how sheltered your house is. If you are on top of a cliff, you’ll need a hall or at least a closed in porch. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Just been to see one and it’s straight into living room, which is my only issue the kitchen and dining is really nice!0

Not straight into the living like front door to a little bit to another door then living room0

When you find 'the one', you will know and likely renege on your red lines anyway. You could always add a porch to a front door into the living room.1

If you ever want to have a family. Go with more space downstairs.
Never pick a house which the door just goes straight into a room.0 -
Any reason why that is? To the door straight into a room?bucksbloke said:If you ever want to have a family. Go with more space downstairs.

Having walk through living rooms and no hallway is a big no no for us.
We prefer more living space over larger bedrooms.
We like a kitchen diner that opens onto the garden. A separate utility would be nice but we are happy enough without one.
A downstairs toilet as well as an en suite and family bathroom are essential for us for when we have friends and family stay over.0 -
Not really a must. The front of our house is south facing and our garden is east facing which works well for us.Carl2510 said:What’s everyone’s view on south facing garden? A must or not

the walking into living room is the only thing I need to get over if I want this house. Which I’m trying hard to do. I think I can do without the utility room I was thinking as it’s got a integral garage I could put something in there maybe? Is it possible to get a sink put in there with some cupboards?0
