The New Shell broadband deal

I have just tried to sign up for this via this site as it is advertised on here as being £14.99 per month, but it showed £31.99, and once the £120 bill credit is taken into account it drops to £24.99!!  Am I missing something?

  • 31.99 to 24.99 is a discounted price, then take £120 credit off that.

Otherwise it would only be £84 discount not £120

After clicking through from MSE, putting in post code states  £24.99 cost/price includes £120 Bill credit as per what O/P stated hence O/P question and my response linking Shell MSE Promotion terms
  • I've got exactly the same message. that the reduced monthly fee of £24.99 INCLUDES the £120 lump sum discount,  Not sure about that though.
    £31.99 x 12 months =£383.88 - £120 =£263.88 / 12 =£21.99 per month
    £24.99 x 12 months =£299.88 - £120 =£179.88 / 12 =£14.99 per month.
Has someone has done their sums wrong and how do we find this out?
  • I think its poor wording as I saw the same.
The package is already discounted from its original price, which is what they show you - £24.99
Then its saying the package includes a £120 bill credit.
The two statements are not linked, in my view.

Note they wanted an additional £60 from me for activation fee (switching from Virgin, even though a BT line is still in place at my property).

Doesn't seem to be anywhere that you can report incorrect information to MSE although I've sent a 'brokenlink' email to see what happens.

Regarding the shell deal £24.99 did you get vat added to that which adds another £4.97 on each month?

  • I think all service providers (gas, electricity & phone) are now obliged to quote charges as VAT inclusive.
  • Had an email reply from MSE Chris. The offer is correct & the £120 comes off after around 3 months to reduce the cost to the equivalent of £14.99. He included a link (which I have been able to copy here) which took me to another box on the Shell website that didn't show when I made the application enquiry.
  • I clicked through today also and signed up but it appears to be an 18 month contract rather than 12 months as MSE states. Not a big deal of course but has anyone else come across this?
