I bought my CX-5 at 23k miles. It is now at 64k and I still have 4-5mm left on my tyres qwhich were the ones present at time of purchase..Biggus_Dickus said:£300 is derisory imo. The cheapskates are trying to have you over.
It was their advertised mileage that led you to buy the car initially. You purchased it in good faith believing that the mileage was 12k.
I don’t know what car model it is but at 12k miles your tyres will probably (??) have reasonable amounts of tread left.
At 18k mile both front & rear tyres will possibly/probably need changing soon’ish.
Tell them you want 4 new (original spec) tyres + £500...minimum!
Damn, that’s quite good!...I assume (perhaps wrongly) that you do a fair amount of motorway driving? What brand tyres are they?
I never let my tyre treads get below 3mm and my driving is mainly ‘urban’ these days...shortish journeys and not much motorway. Urban-driving/acceleration/braking/cornering takes its toll on tyres.
My Jag XF has 19k miles on the clock and I’ve just replaced the rear tyres. The front tyres were changed at 17k miles (Goodyear). :'(
Conversely, I had a company Vauxhall Cavalier (from new) many many moons ago that covered 73k miles in two and a bit years on the same 4 (still legal) original tyres. However, it was mainly constant high speed motorway journeys;..i.e. little in the way of acceleration or braking.
(OP: apologies for taking your thread off course somewhat.)

Even if the tyres did only last 18k, you'd only be entitled to a third of the price, since you were expecting them to be 2/3 worn after 12k.
The value is £4-500 lower than expected. Since the vendor has offered £300, they are at an impasse over £1-200. I'm with the "Ask for £500, settle for £400" theory.
Quite why the OP didn't view the vehicle pre-purchase, or reject it immediately under DSR, is another question. Are you always so abrasive?______

Just used an online lease company to get a quote for a Nissan Qashqui Tekna and the excess mileage number is 14.4 pence per mile.
The OP could do the same using Nissan finance and whatever pence per mile figure that give would be a fair ask.0 -
I linked earlier to Nissan's own personal PCP page. 8p/mile.Grumpy_chap said:Just used an online lease company to get a quote for a Nissan Qashqui Tekna and the excess mileage number is 14.4 pence per mile.

Thanks Adrian, I missed that. I also found the Nissan online system harder to use.AdrianC said:

Definitely, the 8 pence / mile seems a fair level of compensation for "over-mileage" and not that far off the original sum offered by the dealer.0 -
Hello all,
Many thanks for all of y our useful comments and help on this.
I went back to the dealer stating the 40% overage on the miles, standard rates and the depreciation on the car etc.
They came back and offered me £520 for the miles over and I have accepted that.
Your advice was greatly appreciated.
thanks
