It has been really hot here today, and I haven't done much apart from sit in the cool of the house and read. I did the dog walk first thing as usual, cleaned the bathroom and kitchen and did a bit of tidying, a load of washing dried outside etc. Also made a loaf in the BM, and made and froze a batch of roasted tomato sauce as the bowls of tomatoes were building up. I have just done some watering in the garden and picked the beans while OH picked yet more tomatoes.
Lunch was late because someone came round wanting to buy one of the items that OH makes, we had various leftovers from the fridge at about 2pm (I was starving!), then fish for dinner about an hour ago, which is quite late for us. Hoping to get an early night as we are planning on going to a market early in the morning, before there are too many people about. It is still very hot, so I am not sure how much sleep will be had!

Sounds to me like you've achieved quite a lot today Dawn, very humid here too so can imagine sleep will be hard to come by here  too

@ziggy2407 you’re definitely not alone with tradespeople and don’t even get me started on ones that when they turn up start telling you that you don’t want to do what you want and try and get you to do what they want....

don’t ever worry about moaning on here, that’s one of the key things this board is for.

Since we’ve had building work done with an excellent builder, I’d just go to him for everything (as he always uses the same
sub contractors) which is one of many benefits to come out of the extension.

    My list today:
make black currant jam with some gifted fruit
make crumble with other gifted fruit
    leftovers for lunch
something out of freezer for tea
try and get out for a walk later
sort through bag of gifted clothes
hopefully have a nap, despite sleeping ok I’ve woken up a bit tired.

    Have a good day. Purps.

  • I love the idea of this thread! 🙌 Today I have made some rice with some stock leftover from yesterday - it wasn't much but I would normally have thrown it away! I've only done enough rice for dh and I which will be a good base for the 'leftovers' food we have in the fridge and are eating for dinner! 😉
  • Afteroon folks

Welcome to the thread @smushesma !

Feeling a bit groggy myself @PurpleFairy26 despite, like you, having slept ok. Went up to the allotment and cleared more stuff but it was very warm and OH and I both feel hot and tired now. Still, some good work done.
Got home and had lunch, then rolled and froze the seed balls I made the mix for yesterday. This afternoon will be a dozy, crochet type of afternoon. Only other thing is to prep everything for tomorrow morning for an early gym session.

Have a lovely rest of the afternoon

    Afternoon all :)
Welcome @smushesma, hope you stay with us. Honestly, little things like the one you describe really do make a difference to our spending, and by avoiding waste, are good for the environment too :)
Got up early and went to a market this morning as planned, but not the one we intended, as the queue to get in, at 6.30 this morning, was horrendous, so we drove on a bit further to go to a different one. Not quite so good, but I did manage to buy bargainous butter, cheese, bacon and sausages for home, plus a couple of things for my business :) I must remember to note down all spends in the appropriate places when I finish this post!
Icyland delivery arrived, and all put away
I have watered the back garden plants that were desperate - it is very hot again.
And picked the raspberries. The yellow ones have gone absolutely mad, and I will need to dig some up after they have finished fruiting and find them new homes.
I have a loaf in the BM, but I fear it will be a brick, as my inauthentic sourdough starter for breadmakers seems to have lost its oomph, despite feeding it and leaving on the kitchen side instead of shoving it in the fridge where it normally lives. Time to start another one off I think - but it is pretty easy, and doesn't take nearly as long as the 'proper' starters. If a brick results as I fear, I won't waste it, but will slice it, dry the slices in the oven and whizz in the processor to make dry breadcrumbs for coating foods.
I still need to sort out the RM surveys items for the coming week (there is a parcel to post tomorrow morning, boo!), and make dinner, which will be stir fried chicken breast with salad and new potatoes. We have LOTS of lettuce and tomatoes at the moment, and also lots of beans and courgettes. I am trying to base meals around garden stuff as much as possible.
  • Thanks for the welcome @carrielovesfanta and @DawnW! 😊
I've had the rice and leftovers for dinner, and when I was rooting through the fridge to make sure nothing else was lurking, I found a couple of jars of hm fruit puree and a jar of hm fruit syrup. They must have been there for ages! 🙈 I boiled it all up together added agar flakes and now have 4 jars of very lovely spread! That should see me through for a few months 😊
