That's it. Am torn between urge to use things up from the cupboard and urge to get in a load of new stuff - because the rumour is that our area will be placed on lockdown in the next few days. 😨😱😨. My well-stocked cupboard kept me sane during early lockdown as we hardly needed to leave the house. (Obviously I know am lucky to still be in work to be able to afford to buy food in advance. )
Anyone else wondering about how to plan for a possible second lockdown (or you might be already in one) and how trying to be debt-free clashes with need to cling onto money in case of job loss-?

We have been gradually creating a pantry box in case of second lockdown.

Re: debt vs job... I guess it depends how likely you are to lose your job and how quickly you think you might get another one. I guess if you paid say £1000 off a card, but then had to spend it on the card dt job loss, you're no worse off than if you didn't pay it off, but spent the money you kept (does that make sense?)

    Morning folks

Not as muggy here either but I have a mountain of washing and woke up to MIZZLE! Had left a load out overnight hoping it would dry and I think it's wetter?!

Lazy start to the day for me but will be busy later as will be going to m-i-l's. She already rang in in work yesterday to detail the jobs she wants me to do while I'm there. She didn't realise I was in work now, so now I have to text on a Thursday to let her know my timetable. I do get on well with my m-i-l but she's a lot of work!

Today's plans (may roll into tomorrow):
:star: B/L/D from stores - done
:star: Tackle washing mountain - done
:star: Strip and change bed - stripped and by the machine
:star: Make seed balls - mixed up. Now in fridge chilling before I roll them
:star: Lift a few spuds for tea - done
:star: Reconcile budget sheet (is everyone else's shopping bill still high?) - done
:star: Be better with electricity. Our July bill was £8 higher than June?!
:star: Possibly pootle into the garden and pot a few things - potted up some lupins. Also, after thinking of buying plant food for the last 3 weeks, suddenly remembered that there's a whole box of it in the shed

    Hi everyone

Fed up - Tiler finally arrived at 8.30 for his 8 o'clock start, worked and talked constantly until about 3 then packed up and left - will be back Wednesday (probably) - how the heck do I find these guys or why do they think its ok to treat me like this, this guy came highly recommended.  I also understand its hard to turn down work but there is a limit to how many jobs a person can do in a day and take on at any one time surely.  Anyway today's plans for the rest of the day are to knit, read or watch TV but I have managed:

    Check Bank & made PAD
    Swagbucks
    Purge a few emails
    Enter a few comps
    All meals from cupboards/fridge/freezer
Check: Lucky Bob, PMP, WinaDinner (later)
    Read or knit

    Have a good day everyone.

It's not just you @ziggy2407 you he lots of complaints about this type of thing, where tradespeople are more than capable of doing the job but utterly useless at communicating with clients, understanding how it is important to turn up when you say you will, not spend forever chatting, do a full days work, bills promptly and accurately etc

Whenever we are fortunate to find a tradesperson who meets the above criteria the get added to a special list, this list is very short  :'(

Thanks lovely, think it's just one of those weeks where everything feels worse than it is and I feel guilty/stupid now for moaning.

Don't feel bad @ziggy2407 Its so frustrating when tradesmen/anyone really doesn't do what they say they will/when they say.  Like @Baileys_Babe we have a very very short list!
In the way of small things today..
    all meals from stores
cut open the bottle of salad cream to get the dregs
    A couple of nice walks
Dad came to try and get our shed secured better,  the doors weren't closing properly and the flooring was giving way. Used various bits and pieces out of the garage to do this.
Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Ugh, reminds me why I am reluctant to have any work done on our house, even though there are some things I would like, and more importantly, could now afford to have done. When we moved into our house nearly 10 years ago, it needed a lot of work, and we had to get in bathroom and kitchen fitters, plasterers, flooring people etc etc. We didn't do much ourselves at that point apart from the project management, because we were both working stupidly long hours. Some were ok (the bathroom person was good, the flooring people were expensive but ok, but have since blotted their copybook by sending a rude idiot round to mess up the fitting of a new stair carpet), with some of the others there were the usual issues and failures to turn up, but the piece de resistance were Bodgit and Scarper the kitchen fitters grrrr, it still makes me cross thinking about it now. I would buy units from (national DIY etc chain beginning with W) again, because they were reasonably priced and ok quality, in fact they still look ok now, but I would find fitters unconnected with them (or make OH do it, how he would moan! :D ), as no way would I allow their people into my house for a second instalment!
It has been really hot here today, and I haven't done much apart from sit in the cool of the house and read. I did the dog walk first thing as usual, cleaned the bathroom and kitchen and did a bit of tidying, a load of washing dried outside etc. Also made a loaf in the BM, and made and froze a batch of roasted tomato sauce as the bowls of tomatoes were building up. I have just done some watering in the garden and picked the beans while OH picked yet more tomatoes.
Lunch was late because someone came round wanting to buy one of the items that OH makes, we had various leftovers from the fridge at about 2pm (I was starving!), then fish for dinner about an hour ago, which is quite late for us. Hoping to get an early night as we are planning on going to a market early in the morning, before there are too many people about. It is still very hot, so I am not sure how much sleep will be had!
