You are assuming, in it has to be said rather a patronising manner, that everyone travels in exactly the same way: I personally only fly with hand luggage (no baggage reclaim) and do not do coach transfers. ‘Queuing at security/check-in’ is no different to queuing to enter a supermarket – spaced accordingly – and ‘sitting on the plane’ that has air filtration systems equipped with HEPA filters is I can assure you lower risk than then entering said supermarket. Or gym, cinema, theatre, pub, bus, train, office, doctor surgery… the list goes on.
I regret you found my reply patronising. It was a valid question to the poster I quoted. They are the things we considered before cancelling our late August holiday. They all applied to us. I didn't say they applied to everybody. But thank you for pointing out the error of my assumption.I've seen clips of people queuing at airports recently and I can assure you that they bear no resemblance to the 'queue' I was in at Aldi yesterday - one person in front of me, nobody behind.I can't speak for these places - gym, cinema, theatre, pub, train, office, doctor surgery as I've not visited any of those. However, the bus I caught yesterday had a maximum of 5 passengers at any one time. I doubt that a plane to Greece would have that ratio.0 -
No, but you obvioulsy implied that they applied to the poster. As for: 'Can you calculate that risk when you have no idea who is stood in front of you or behind you or sat next to you?' Again, a sweeping assumption. It would not be far stretched to have say, two daughters with grand parents stood in front another daughter and son stood behind and your partner next to you. Snap for seating.1

Both my DH & I are planning to travel abroad next month; we’ve had to cancel a 3 week holiday to Australia to see our DD and we’re now looking carefully at where we could go. The plan currently is to book somewhere via BA holidays but we’re doing plenty of research on several destinations and keeping a very close eye on FCO advice.

Can you calculate that risk when you have no idea who is stood in front of you or behind you or sat next to you?1

Tedber said:Ad-man beat me to it but was going to say I don't think it would be any worse than going shopping. There will be distancing markers am sure and if not then surely people know to leave a gap between themselves and the person in front? Am sure they will work something out with baggage reclaim also. Can't see it being any more risky than anything else other than staying inside your own home that is. Anyway it doesn't matter what we think, if the OP decides to go I hope they have a wonderful time and come back to tell us about it.I don't know about you but I don't spend anywhere near the same amount of time in a shop than I do in the check-in queue, Security queue, on the plane, luggage reclaim. Maybe you fast-track through it all...I wasn't replying to the OP. It was a different poster that I quoted.0

Cinema and theatres are not open because of th risk of infection.
Doctors are doing phone appointments and you only go into surgery f necessary premises are locked and you have to wait to be allowed in , no queuing and one to one visit.
Those who went to the pub in Aberdeen thought it was safe to do so or did not care. Now 54 are infected with numbers rising every day and Aberdeen is back in lockdown with pubs now closed.
Wetherspoons and KFc have closed restaurants because of infection.
So while we all want to 'live' we need to take stock of the risks involved.

We each make our own risk assessment and decide based on that.
The OP asked for points to consider and people have given him them.
The OP and partner will make their own decision based on what they consider an acceptable risk.0 -
