I glance around at different drivers and miracle whether they truly need to get to where they're going so quick, and whether they'll back off when they arrive. <snipped spam>
It started off so well too .... 🙄

The victims of speeding are not just people directly involved in accidents, they are the people who have to breath the extra pollution, all of us who suffer extra global warning, the people frightened away from active travel, all of us from the extra pollution caused by that, all of us from the extra costs to the NHS of people forced into inactivity.
Speeding is far from a victimless crime.

Please don’t start that political/eco guff.
The amount of pollution and contribution towards global warming by vehicles on the roads is minuscule compared to the amount created by other sources
How about banning the USA and China as a start as they contribute much more that anyone else.

And to answer the question about speeding/incidents/accidents- the OP has yet to provide any hard evidence that the perceived speeding has caused any increase in their location. (Not ignoring that it can be a factor)

    Per capita?

If we look at CO2, then China is actually quite low (only a little ahead of the UK) - and the US isn't even in the top ten. Australia and Canada are both above it.

A good reply and I agree with much of what you say however I do think it is very telling that both you and @ToxicWomble chose not to answer the actual question... Is there anyone here who hand on heart believes scrapping speed limits would lead to fewer people being involved in KSI incidents? Similarly, as pointed out by @Norman_Castle, serious accidents are only part of the reason why speed limits are a necessary evil.
I don't think there'll be fewer but neither do I think there will be a rise, certainly nothing like the one you imagine there would be. Given that 95% of KSI accidents don't have speeding as a contributory factor a rise in KSI is likely to be so low it would be hard to prove a direct correlation. As I said those who would be the most likely to drive faster already are because as I illustrated they already know the chance of being caught is next to nil if you keep your eyes open. One of the reasons police employ the use of unmarked vehicles is because it's much easier to catch a speeder when you blend in than when using overt visible speed detection such as cameras or marked vehicle.
I also disagree with Norman's post. The parents trotting that out are using it as a convenient excuse as a response to anyone challenging them why they're not walking their kids to school. It's an easily trotted out reply that most doing the questioning would feel uncomfortable challenging. If it's because the cars were such a problem then why were more kids walking to school in the 70s, a period where cars were far less safe with much worse handling, brakes and tyres, the driving test standards were lower, speed enforcement was even worse than now and drink driving was deemed to be acceptable? Maybe "snowflake millennials" has some basis if parents are handwringing over cars travelling a bit over the limit and using that as an excuse to drive their kids to school.

School run parents was a minor point in my post. How much time do you spend using the roads other than in or on a motor vehicle?

Global warming and local air pollution are separate problems. Many long term respiratory health problems are caused by or made worse by vehicle pollution. Being inside a vehicle doesn't protect the occupants.
I live on a main road in a city, during lockdown the air has been noticeably cleaner. I'm not looking forward to schools reopening and the very noticeable extra pollution that brings.

15-30 minutes a day as a pedestrian. Started to do a daily walk during lockdown, kept it up especially given a spinal injury I have and the amount of time I spend sat at work.
Long term respiratory health problems and poor air quality are caused more by having lots of people live in a small space than because of vehicles. Where I live the population density is just 1/60th that of London and is ranked 279th out of 317 for population density of English Districts. Poor air quality is not an issue, neither are long term respiratory problems and during summer our county experiences high levels of traffic due to it being a popular holiday destination.

Yugoslavia must be a fantastically eco-friendly place, they haven't produced a single gram of CO2 since 1992 ;-)

OP, was the limit changed down from 40 recently? It can take a while for some people to catch on, but as somebody mentioned electronic speed signs at both ends of the zone will work wonders.
