Just for context it was only a couple of years ago following the release of accident causation statistics by the ONS that police were forced to admit that speeding was a contributory factor in just 5% of KSI accidents, that inappropriate speed (where you're driving at or below the limit but too fast for the road) was higher at 6%. The highest contributory factor at 49% is driver error but it's a bit harder than sticking up a camera on a pole to automate catching that to a level you can automatically issue a £100 fine.
Speeding doesn't kill anywhere near as much as the official campaigning and scaremongering would have you believe. Every driver in this country exceeds the speed limit, the vast majority at least once a day. We have less than 2000 road deaths a year for the billions of miles driven with less than 100 having speeding as a contributory factor.

You can say the same about drink driving,
On average 1,800 die in road accidents per year
On average 7,500 die from alcohol related deaths per year,
However only 230 die per year from drinking and driving. Statistically its safer

As the OP hasn’t returned with any actual accident stats or hard evidence that cars are actually speeding we have to assume they are just trying to find something to do with their time/moan about

Can you be charged with building a scarecrow that's impersonating a police officer!?

Even one just dressed in hi Vis at the side of the road might work, for a while.  Until the regulars realise.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

I believe that there was a case reported in the papers a few years ago. Outcome wasn't good for the person who did it.

Except the numbers that drink drive are very small compared to the number who speed.

I always wonder what 20MPH speed limits are all about. To my mind it has just led to more people totally ignoring speed limits. There is no point putting up 20MPH speed limit signs if you aren't going to put cameras up too. Motorists will always ignore speed limits unless they are enforced. Do the councils get paid more? Is it to prove to some sections of the community that they are trying to improve road safety(without actually doing anything). It was all such a waste of money.

stop getting het up about what other people are doing
Are there any other criminal offences you think we should turn a blind eye to and "stop getting het up about"?

To me that suggests that the current prevalence of lower speed limits and speed cameras is working! A genuine question for you and @ToxicWomble, if we didn't have speed limits and/or the speed limits were not enforced do you honestly think more people or less people would be killed or seriously injured on our roads?

They slow cars to just below the previous 30 limit that was driven at 40mph.
