Sorry I also misread this question, the difference is around £400 between saying I have 0 years and 8 yearsGrumpy_chap said:What actual difference is 1 year, 8 years or no NCB actually making to quotes?0 -
I see as you didn't say it was towards the OP, I took it the wrong way. lol SorryGrumpy_chap said:
Yes, I know that. What I meant was, specifically for the OP, what exactly difference does it make in absolute terms pounds, shillings and pence? It is quick and easy to find out using a comparison site._Jem_ said:
The more NCB the cheaper it will be.Grumpy_chap said:What actual difference is 1 year, 8 years or no NCB actually making to quotes?0 -
Are you certain that the insurance you took out has not accepted the named driver as valid for the NCD? I know a number of companies do this, usually asking if you were a named driver.0

Hi john, I sorted my insurance through a comparison website but I don’t remember them asking me if I was a named driver when I applied, I just added the 8 years no claims and paid the extra to protect my no claims bonus which I thought I had 🥴 I think I may give them a call and explain the situation as it was an honest mistake, my insurance with them is due to end this week.JohnM5206 said:Are you certain that the insurance you took out has not accepted the named driver as valid for the NCD? I would not alert the old insurer to the error now with only one week to go, but
Therefore, just do next year policy with exactly the correct details.katiem188 said:Hi I’m not worried about my new insurance quote being more expensive0 -
That would be my suggestion as well.Grumpy_chap said:I would not alert the old insurer to the error now with only one week to go, but

If you contact your present insurer and tell them what has happened, there is a possibility that they will cancel the policy. If this was to happen, a £400 difference in premiums would be the least of your worries as you would have to declare the cancelled policy whenever you take out new motor insurance.
This could result in many insurers refusing to provide a quote and those that did would probably load the premiums.

I wouldn't contact the current insurer.
Worse case scenario - they cancel your insurance (result = a world of hurt).
Best case scenario - they accept your mistake, correct your policy & then ask you to pay £500 - £600 extra for the previous years cover because that's the difference between what you paid & what you should have paid had there been no error.
For the new policy just state the truth which is that you have 1 years no claims.
Just cross your fingers you don't need to claim between now & the end of your current insurance (in case they decide to chase up the no claims issue). Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???0 -
What does your renewal letter say about your NCB?
Surely if they've previously accepted 8 years NCB it will now state that you have 9 years, which will be your proof going forward.0 -
That's the whole basis for her dilemma. She now knows she really has 1 year NCB, but the renewal from her current insurer says she has 9. If she wants proof of only 1 year's NCB for a new insurer how does she get this without the current insurer twigging they under charged her?neilmcl said:What does your renewal letter say about your NCB?
