Why hasn't everyone put tcallaghan on ignore by now, that's the only outstanding question here.

I've not read all the above, but I see Bitcoin and other crypto currencies as no different to paper currency.
The paper could have no real value in reality.
In fact, the more I think about it, the security and long term value is safer in Crypto Currencies that can not be manipulated/diluted/voided by the countries involved?

Is that why you are 'entertaining yourself' by finding old threads he is on - where he is not the most recent person to comment and nobody else has commented for six weeks, and opening up the thread again just to write   "This profileis posting nonsense all over the forum just ignore them" and "Ignore this nonsense" ?

This sort of internet stalking due to a grudge or personal vendetta is unhealthy and doesn't do you any credit.   If there is a live discussion in which he's participating and you have a different point of view, jump in, but to stalk through people's history and reopen a thread just to berate them is the sort of cyberbullying that gets people banned.

Well as a currency it's utility is determined by those who are willing to use it as a currency. In spite of [history], developed market currencies have not become worthless and I trust their governments and central banks more (or... I don't trust them less) than I do the Bitcoin cult. No-one knows how much of it is criminal, it's frought with far more risk even as a medium of exchange because it operates outside of and separate to the "light of day" world of regulated banking.
To understand currency, if you go back to the time of flint and obsidian, you can see how those materials emerged as the first currencies. They were rare, useful materials, that did not rot, break or melt, were divisible and multipliable, value dense, and had utility as tools. Metals were better because they were divisible and multipliable whereas flint and obsidian are brittle.
banking became normal in Europe by 1700ish paper money and earning interest on your gold were more convenient, then we got travellers cheques, then cards, then online banking.
Bitcoin's only UPS, it's only economic advantage or distinguishing feature over fiat currency is not being government controlled. and i dont see that as an advantage
    the rest is hype

Well I'm glad that's over and now we can get back to the serious discussion.
Maybe Crypto should have it's own section on the website and not go in the savings and investment section where people who aren't in a cult can talk about real things.

Or maybe you just stay off the threads and keep to something you can be more positive about?

I'd like you to go into Greggs and make that point.

However 'the countries involved' can outlaw bitcoin anytime they see fit, for example when they only want you to use their own 'official' new digital currency. Then Bitcoin has no security or long-term value. Not that I am a fan of paper currencies either but there are political risks to Bitcoin.
