Elderly Parents getting Ripped Off

All the bills for the past year have been posted over two separate posts. All of them are collated in the table I posted towards the start of page 15.MWT said:Robin9 said:Any possibility that the gas and electric readings have been transposed in those months ?No, if you look at the images of the bills for December and January, the meter reading numbers are too different, electricity is in the 39xxx range and gas is 12xxxIt would be helpful to see the images for the February, March and April bills though...1 -
Going back to an earlier post today:
It would certainly explain the jump if the readings up to 07-Jan were entered from that incorrect register showing 41552.4 instead of the correct register showing 45335.3...If the 07-Jan reading was incorrect and the 05-Feb was correct that would mean the actual usage in January was around 400kWh, but the billed amount was correct as the previous readings had been using the wrong register...1 -
Just wondering perhaps written down on a scrap of paper and got mixed up somehow - in theory the supplier should reject any obvious anomalies.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1

It wasn't a one off anomaly - that would have resolved itself at the next reading (well, after a lot of arguments, as suppliers don't like meters going backwards).
Does anyone have any background on the Using Now register? It's name implies it would show the live consumption, but 41,500W would melt cables!1 -

Electricity 02-Dec 38530 07-Jan 39032 05-Feb 43214 03-Mar 43587 06-Apr 44042 03-May 44361 The readings lurches forward in February but remains consistent thereafter. That 'Using Now' register is showing kWh, if it remains offset from the correct import register by the same amount that using that register for the readings up to January, and the correct register for the readings from February onwards would account for the large electricity bill in January.1 -
Take a look at this video, it shows exactly the problem that I think has been occurring...

If you press button 'B' you get the 'Using Now' register, which is not the one to use.Press button 9 and you get the right one...

That sounds like a very plausible explanation for Using Now. Perhaps a second set of readings from @xlnc99 would confirm that the offset remains at 3782.9?MWT said:Talldave said:Does anyone have any background on the Using Now register? Presumably the meter was used in E7 mode at some point in time, hence the only import register in use now doesn't match the Import kWh register?
And the second presumably is that the E7 use of the meter was at another address, otherwise the useless industry body that screws up meter readings would have spotted the error at the point of switching to non-E7 mode?
@xlnc99 you'll have explain that you suspect the meter was misread using button B instead of "9" until January this year, hence the leap in readings. Your mum might be amused at a button "B" issue occurring in the 21st century!!1 -
"Press button B and get your money back" may well work here also..
