Debt recovery plus

Options
Dear All

I've received a letter from Debt recovery plus about a parking charge of £170.00.

It's the first I've heard from them. I rang them  and they've informed me that a compnay called smart parking havr passed the debt on to them. The letter informs me that their client has previously written to me about a parking charge and that it still remains unpaid.

I haven't received any letters before this one. The lady on the phone told me that smart parking had sent me a letter - again I explained I hadn't received any letter prior to their letter. I asked for details of smart parking but she refused to give me their details and suggested I seek independent legal advice.
Can anyone help me please? I don't have £170 and I don't know who these people are.

Have you moved recently and failed to update your V5C with the DVLA?  That would explain why you received no paperwork.  Submit a SAR to the DPO of Smart Parking using the e-mail address DPO@SmartParking.com.  For more advice, especially acronyms and how to write a SAR application refer to the NEWBIE sticky on page one of this forum.

Follow Le_Kirk's guidance but also note that the fourth post in the NEWBIES thread explains exactly how to deal with debt collectors letters.

Simply by clicking on the link I have already provided.

As asked earlier... is the registered keeper's address correct of the vehicle's Registration Document (V5c)?
Please check that document. Don't guess.

We don't need any threads about DRP, and nor do you!

You will see that when you read the 4th post of the NEWBIES thread.

    Dear All
Thank you for your advice. I've yet to read all the info you've signposted me to. Apologies if I've created an unnecessary thread. I just didn't know what to do. I spoke to them and they were very rude. They just kept demanding payment and talking over me. It was appalling.

I have no idea why anyone would ring them.    What possesses a person to pick the phone up and think they are talking to a customer service team, when the letter is clearly from a scam debt collector, Google-able in 20 seconds?

I am glad you found us now but what are people thinking of by opening that letter, reading it and phoning DRP up like they are a normal company?  Anyway no need to answer.  Read the 4th post of the NEWBIES thread and stop taking the bait.
