A Dr friend of mine advised me to take a rehydration drink (not sure i can post the brand name but Boots also do their own make) before you go to bed and again in the morning when you waken. I tried them after a night out when by rights I really should have been dead the next day, not just hungover :rotfl: and it worked a treat. one of these and an alkaline drink (as above) will settle your stomach & help your head. Then its sleep as much as you can until you can manage to eat. I swear by a fried egg sandwich and and ice lolly!
Sadly with 2 little uns my bad hangover days are long gone - it just aint worth it!!
  • I thought I would post an update! Well I made it to 2 'o'clock, only 3 more hours to go till I can go home. I have had lots of water and a baked potato with cheese and beans and although it made me feel worse for about 20 mins (thought I would be seeing it again if you know what I mean!) I am less shakey and have warmed up a bit hooray! Thanks for everyone's advice. Wise words - and all learnt the hard way by the sounds of it!

The oral rehydration drinks and an couple of ibuprofen were the suggestion of my pharmacology lecturer back in first year, and it remains the one useful piece of info he's ever given me.... :D

Orange juice works well for me. I have learnt to avoid hangovers now as I have a phobia of vomit.

    A big greasy fry-up.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

Yep, have to agree with wigginsmum. A big greasy fry-up usually does the trick.

What your body is telling you is that it's dehydrated and it needs to get rid of those nasty toxins (shame those toxins taste good though...). So, a big greasy fryup would be a start because it'll help to absorb lots of nasties which then get flushed out of your system. However, if you're so far gone a fryup is out of the question, I would suggest a pint of water on the hour, a paracetamol with your first one, and a big glass of orange juice on the half hour until you start feeling a bit better. If you still can't face the greasy fryup, then eggs cooked however you feel like it are also useful.
