I also have a 25 yr old conservatory in which all the glazing has blown. I need to get them replaced as they are no longer efficient. I suppose I won’t qualify either.

Hi, I'm in the same boat as a number of people, old double glazing that is well past its use by date. Is there any chance we can collectively pressure the government to change the rule on only replacing single glazing?
  • This scheme is rubbish and nothing like what the government made out at the beginning. So all the rich people with century old cottages in The Cotswolds  can get them done up for virtually free, but for the likes of me who desperately needs my ill fitting, old, blown double glazing replaced, can’t do it  because it doesn’t cover replacing double glazing only first time installing!. Even if I did qualify, I’d have to have something from the ‘primary’ list first like changing the whole of my heating system from gas to heat pump! Read what’s available very carefully guys. There’s going to be a lot of disappointed people out there!
  • Our double glazing is over 25 years old & has pretty much give up the ghost. Do you think we will be able to replace them?

  • Double glazing replacement won’t be available from the grant, only first time installation and only if you have another service from the Primary list first. Double glazing is on the Secondary list!

According to the link in the OP, it will not cover replacement double-glazing.

Would you be able to use the grant to install a heat pump and then also claim the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)
I know there's limited info at present but with the RHI signup due to run to March 2022 i have calculated off the gov website that i could get a £10k ground heat pump and pay £2.5K and then receive £9.8K over 7 years from RHI
  • So the governments random-lottery-distribution of future taxpayers cash continues!
Many of these primary improvements favor house owners over flat owners. They also favor properties of a certain age. So a victorian flat owner (of which there are many in some cities) has no cavity walls to insulate and pretty much no allowance within their leases to meddle with the walls, loft, roof etc installing these low carbon improvements.

I can forsee many bent installers agreeing to massively overpriced loft insulation top ups so that the customer can qualify for the full double glazing discount. Net result it that the loft insulation is basically worthless so the customer gets their windows for 2/3 of the full price, trader makes double what they should and taxpayers are saddled with massive further debt...

I'd be curious to know this as well.

Assuming you can, the vouchers are only £5k max and a GSHP costs more like £15-20k to install, so you would be looking at paying £10k, not £2.5k. And keep in mind to be eligible for the RHI you need to top up your loft & cavity wall insulation if your EPC says so, so that will add some costs too... So good if you were thinking of doing it anyway but hardly a money-maker.

Maybe my figures aren't quite right, although low income families can claim £10k.
If i went for a cheaper Air heat pump then i could get the £5k towards that, I know my loft insulation is ok as recently done. Even if i needed cavity I would still be in profit after 7 years, that's before taking into account the reduction in energy bill.
