I've been trying to get quotes for external wall insulation, there are only two companies in my area registered on the scheme. I sent details and photos as requested on the 18th Sept to my preferred installer about 25 miles away. The other installer quoted today at £9,500 plus vat - total £9,975 for a 3 bed end terrace. Convenient price considering I'm eligible for £10k grant. I then phoned my preferred installer only to be told they are too busy to quote me and already booked up until the end of Feb so are only quoting in the local area! Therefore I have no comparative quotes. The scheme is already a farce and companies are swamped so we're going to get jobs rushed and quality will no doubt suffer when corners are cut to fit people in by the deadline. The deadline simply just be extended. The company that quoted me today has said they know next to nothing on the details of how the scheme will work, as did my preferred installer, so the usual government muck up then.
Personally your quote doesn't look too bad for end of terrace house, presumably that's the front side, rear side and the side of the house.
Make sure all the guttering, Soil pipe, plumbing, scaffolding is all included in the price.
My cheapest quote came at 12k.

Ah well that's good to know on price at least, thanks, although maybe depends on location, I'm Hull, East Yorkshire.
Yes its front, side and rear, however front has large bay windows so not too much wall, side yes granted and the rear has a kitchen extension (with cavity walls) and large French doors so no wall insulation downstairs, just upstairs. Although in fairness they did say they'd silicone render the kitchen extension! The quote was rather rushed with not a lot of time to ask about details, although I was advised a further detailed quote would be done if I was to proceed. I'm not overly comfortable with that approach, however they do seem a reputable company. Thanks also for the heads up on the other details, they did say about scaffolding but other things were glossed over in the rush!

My quote for external insulation, 3 bed end terrace, is just short of £9000 but that's only for the rear wall & gable end. Good point about ensuring scaffolding, soil pipes etc is included
  • Something I wanted to share in case anyone was thinking of using Green Grants 4 U Ltd - it came up on my TrustMark search for Energy Efficient Glazing and Doors but it would seem they are apparently certificated in many types of work including various types of Insulation, Heating Controls and so on:
Being a bit wary of the name sounding cheesy and sales-y, I looked up the company to find that they have only been registered for a month...
'Green Grants 4 U Limited is a private limited company registered at 41A Prince Of Wales Road, London NW5 3LJ. This less than 1 month-old company, incorporated on 2020-09-09 is run by 1 director.'

Not that there's anything wrong with that necessarily - I'll leave people to judge that for themselves, but it does mean that according to the company documents filed, they have just £100.00 in capital... Hmmm.

Might be worth checking the registers of any company you use for this scheme on BizStats or Companies House .

  • I have 25 yr old rock wool cavity wall insulation which is wet, classed as contaminated. I'm finding it difficult to find out if removal and replacement is covered in this scheme. Does anyone know? Thanks
  • I have already posted about this twice but my posts seemed to have been removed.  A few weeks ago I contacted several companies about cavity wall insulation, had no replies.  Tonight, I have emailed at least 6 companies from the simple energy advice org list.  Will see what happens!  Whilst it seems like a good idea, I would love to hear from anyone who actually got an assessor to come out.  Is this a joke?
I've managed to get one person to come out for a look. No one else seems to want to touch thus scheme. I've heard they take months to pay contractors. .. also I'm aiming to get 25yr old cavity wall taken out and new installed. I can't get an answer whether is  covered by the scheme of not.
I wonder if anyone will be able to get through all the barriers
  • Has anyone who applied for this scheme received the Voucher yet? or at least an email confirmation you have applied?

1 week on from calling 5 companies I've had 1 response, and their price to insulate a 25m2 flat roof was double what I can get it for without the scheme.  Still a saving as the gov pays 2/3, but it means I'm paying 2/3 of the true cost not 1/3.  It's also conveniently close to the government maximum share.....
  • I've read somewhere that I can get my cavity wall insulation "topped up" Yet when I've enquired in the past about this, (not on any offers elsewhere) I've been informed it can't be done. Now reading this latest gov offer somewhere on this forum, 35 pages & counting, I can apply??? Any advice welcomed.

I've got exactly the same quote for a 3-bed Semi. Had it done on another property of mine and the figure is the normal price. My price includes scaffolding and 25 year warranty. Price doesn't include completely changing guttering but it includes moving/extending it.
