Hello, applying for the New Green Homes grant today - trying to clarify as to wether spending as an example - 15k on  External wall insulation with the Voucher providing £5k am I then able to claim a secondary measure for an additional £5k ?

    thanks in advance,
You get 5k in total.  If you spend that on primary measures then that's it.
Unless you are on income based benefits and could be possibly eligible for 10k

I have had a quote for my loft insulation top up but that will only give me a small amount towards the double glazing work that needs to be done.

I have also had a quote for the double glazing. I know that I will have to pay for most of this myself and will only get about 10% off the cost of the double glazing. Problem is though that originally I found the double glazing contractor on the GOV website.  On the application I can't find them even though they are signed up to the scheme. They are a member of FENSA and another accredited scheme. I don't have all my windows doubled glazed and I need a certain make and colour to match up.

It's such a complicated scheme. They have over complicated it

    Nolite te bast--des carborundorum.
  • I have been unable to find any installer of double glazing to quote for the works, Trustmark have supplied a list of registered installers in the area saying they are a scheme provider, they have done this without checking with these companies, on top of been Trustmark members they also have to be ISO Accredited, the cost of this has put them off the scheme as they are unsure how much work if any they will get, these companies are Fensa registered so why can that not be the benchmark for approved contractors??
  • I’ve been trying for weeks to get quotes for loft and cavity Wall insulation. It’s a nightmare as there aren’t many registered installers and, although they all sound very keen initially, getting a quote is a different matter.  So far I’ve managed to get one quote for cavity wall insulation but that’s it.  Somebody is expected today so, if he turns up, I might get a second, but I’m not holding my breath!  I’m nearly at the point of giving up.

The nearest Trustmark installers i can find for doing the work i want (underfloor  insulation) are 60+ miles away, although they claim to cover my area. I have registered online and emailed the nearest three, abourt 6 weeks ago and subsequently, but have had zero response.
  • How do you get an assessor to come to your home.
  • Can someone clarify this, it is not mentioned in the MSE article too.
If the government is contributing £5000 then surely the works would be a total of £7,500 in total. Meaning an extra £2,500 than most people are calculating.
However if the government is actually only offering 2/3 of £5,000 that = £3,333.00. They would be misleading homeowners to think they are getting help of £5,000 when instead its £3,333.
Please can someone check, as this is really a big deal.

10k will be 10k....they are laughing foe those who are homeowners and on benefits listed.
  • I tried contacting installers directly for under floor insulation, room in roof insulation and smart heating controls when it was first announced to get ahead of the game and only got one positive response. They said they would contact me back when the scheme opened ... guess what ... I'm still waiting and, despite chasing them, nothing.
I tried the government website when that opened to see if I'm eligible and get other installer names only to find out (like other people) it says I am only eligible for solid floor insulation ... I have a suspended timber foor!  I rang them direct, they went through the eligibility checker with me over the phone (without firstly telling me that it was something I had done wrong) only to come to the same result!  They then gave me the name of 3 installers to chase myself and the trustmark website to go to directly.  None of the installers have responded.
I have tried making contact with installers via the trustmark website ... nothing.
I have tried lots of installers directly within a 30 mile radius of my home ... nothing.
    An absolute shambles.
  • 10 installers contacted In a 50 mile radius for external wall insulation.
•2 replied saying they “didn’t operate in my area”.
•The rest didn’t even bother to reply.

*trustmark appear to be as trust worthy as this government.

The whole this is an Absolute shambles.
the fact the website states you can start applying at the end of September, and it’s not until approx 2pm on the 30th that it’s actually live... shows how unorganised this whole thing really is. Before this the websites last update was 7th Aug!  🤡

The government will cover 2/3 of the cost, up to the maximum of £5000 (£10,000 for homeowners on certain benefits).

E.g. for solid wall insulation costing £10,000, 2/3 of this is £6600 but as the government contribution is capped at £5000, they will pay £5000, so you're left with £5000 to pay yourself. I think this is right, correct me if I'm wrong!
I was lucky to get a quote as I started in August, I only got one though, you don't need 3, it is only advised to get 3 for comparison.
