I Would like to apply for the green grant but when I put trustmark contractors in it gives me a company and says it covers my area. I live on the Isle of Wight. I am a little confused as to how I get the contractors to give me a quote. One was in Blackpool!!,0

HiI've been having problems trying to get local installers to take up any work on this government scheme. It seems that most glazing installers are registered with Fensa and they have to pay hundreds of pounds for this. Therefore they are not prepared to pay out again to be MSC registered or Trustmark approved. Also many local installers are not prepared to pay for goods up front out of their own pocket as they don't know how long they would have to wait to be paid by the voucher scheme. This home improvement grant is obviously only suitable for the big companies and won't provide extra work for local tradesmen. It is such a pity as I feel my brother is not going to get his single glazed windows replaced and his flat is terribly cold in winter especially as he only has electric storage heaters as well. He should qualify for the scheme as he is on benefits owing to ill health but I feel that I will abandon all efforts on his behalf as I am tired of contacting installers to try to get quotes to submit with the application.2

I am looking at getting new loft insulation but will the Green Home Grant also cover for the boarding out of the loft along with the insulation ?0

Hi all 😊. I am looking to get new loft insulation via the Green Home scheme but wondered if it would also cover the additional cost of boarding out the loft, which is also required. TIA.0

Boarding is not needed for insulation and indeed is tricky to install over the current standard of insulation as it has to be raised so high above the ceiling joists (as the insulation standard is now much deeper than those joist). If you want boarding it'll be all your own spend!2 -
Hello, applying for the New Green Homes grant today - trying to clarify as to wether spending as an example - 15k on External wall insulation with the Voucher providing £5k am I then able to claim a secondary measure for an additional £5k ?
thanks in advance,0 -
Was hoping to get the grant for double glazing, still have single glazing but the loft is already insulated and have cavity wall insulation and there aren't any other options in the primary part as far as I can see, I have an oldish combi ( about 15 years old, I think) boiler and I don't think the solar panels would work with that- something about it wouldn't accept already heated water. I wish they could have put the double glazing in the primary option - I maybe being a bit slow, but it does seem quite complicated, you need 3 quotes even if I could apply and there only looked to be one place ( relatively near to me) others miles away.0

I don't know if your £5k primary gives you £5k secondary or if the total is capped at £5k, i.e., £4k primary gives you an extra £1k secondary; or 2.5k primary gives 2.5k secondary. The government page is a bit confusing.
I have external wall insulation and wouldn't really recommend it unless you plan to live there for a very long time and can climb a ladder to re-paint your house every few years and live somewhere very cold, otherwise the cost of paint seems to outweigh any benefits. For example, enerysavingtrust estimates for mid-terrace would save £145pa and detached £375pa. That's certainly not true in my case since my savings are far lower. But, even if it were, that sounds good, until you figure that £10k / 145pa = 68 years before you start to make any savings, and that excludes maintenance costs.

darkovo said:I requested quotes 3 weeks ago and no one has got back to me, apart from 1 company that was inundated and added me to a list but didn't know when they'd get in touch again!I've checked the list of my nearest installers on the simpleenergyadvice website and its the same 3 company telephone numbers per selected job type (12 companies in all), so nothing has changed in 3 weeks, and only 2 of these companies are actually reasonably local, others are 80+ miles away! What is the point in this scheme apart from a publicity stunt?0
