So it was a failiure. Good thing you didn't take the extension then. Be glad you now have a safer carsjljd said:Hello.
My car was due for an MOT on 25 July. I took it to the garage and they did it but didn't inform me I could have got an extension. I didn't know that was an option. It only needed minor work for emissions. Is there anything I can do? Upset that as a regular customer we were not told.
ThanksAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......1

Bit late anyway now. Plus, I don’t think it’s the garages responsibility to inform you of an extension. That’s down to you.1

Better to get the MOT done and know you have a safe car IMO0

Emissions problems can both cause more problems if left (a faulty O2 sensor or misfire undiagnosed can destroy a catalytic converter, a very expensive part) and cause excessive fuel consumption, so the garage have done you a favour.
What you can do is thank the garage for finding and fixing the problem, and if you've been shirty with them on the phone apologise. 1 1

We’ve just bought a 57(2008) fiesta 1.4tdci mot due Feb, had it 24hrs and it’s acting up coughing and spluttering, didn’t see anything to do with MOT before we bought other than it had a current one, now I’ve looked at the paper work we were given afterwards there was an advisory of injector seal blowing repair replace if needed, should this be done under warranty?0

Upset that as a regular customer we were not told. Most of the people that took advantage of the extension have been booking in them like crazy. So, not sure what you have to be upset about I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

Did you test drive the car? Was this fault evident at test drive?bears9h said:We’ve just bought a 57(2008) fiesta 1.4tdci mot due Feb, had it 24hrs and it’s acting up coughing and spluttering, didn’t see anything to do with MOT before we bought other than it had a current one, now I’ve looked at the paper work we were given afterwards there was an advisory of injector seal blowing repair replace if needed, should this be done under warranty?0

We took it for a drive the night before we picked it up only went a couple of miles, next day once we’d taken it the daughter took it out and did around 25 miles then it started acting up.0

I assume you purchased from a trader and not private sale?
Have you reported your concerns to the vendor?
Have you verified the cause of the coughing & spluttering? Is it linked to the injector seal advisory from the MOT or something else?
The consumer rules around used cars are more in favour of the purchaser than the dealer now, around rejecting a car or repair if the fault was present or developing at the time of purchase. These do take into account the age of the vehicle to some extent.
The first thing to do is quickly raise your concerns with the vendor as time limits apply.0
