If the sticker says that the boiler has been turned off because it's unsafe, how come the engineer left it on?

Because the installation doesnt pose an Immediate Risk and as such the OP probably refused to allow the engineer to turn it off.

Disgraceful behaviour even considering doing such a thing. Shame on you! If the shoe was on the other foot I have no doubt whatsoever that you would be outraged! Good god does nobody have any empathy or morals anymore?!?!

The level of risk was judged to be low, especially as the OP had been told the circumstances which would cause danger (and which hadn't occurred in years since installation.) The closeness to a window danger could be avoided by not opening it.
If an engineer cuts of a household's supply of hot water, that obviously has the potential to impact on their health too, especially at present.

It's been a while since we had a thread as morally bankrupt as this, so I guess we were overdue :)

There’s no need for the forceful comments and calling the OP some sort of animal. The OP has merely asked.
I would be inclined to agree with you if they were asking to take an established plant out the garden, or drawers out of a wardrobe, or asking to store stuff in the garage for a month, but this is more akin to half cutting the brakes of a car before selling it (if that's possible, I'm no mechanic lol), or selling a broken child's car seat.

It clearly says DO NOT REMOVE and has been deemed dangerous. If someone died as a result, they would be looking at a manslaughter charge. This isn't something you 'just ask about'. I'd rather they didn't mention it and faced the consequences when the buyers moved in. But to ask about taking the sticker off and keeping quiet? Lost for words.
Being lost for words is one thing but calling people names when this is supposed to be a helpful site I don’t think is on. The OP may well listen and act on this advice, other posters may see this and think they won’t ask a legitimate question as some comments are horrible, and just remove the sticker and hope for the best. Ok so I don’t agree with removing the sticker and I would get it fixed but I bet there are a lot of people who would be thinking the opposite but now won’t post as they won’t want horrible comments coming back to them.

I like the fact the OP is bouncing this off of other people rather than just acting on it. It’s a shame as usual people aren’t treated with respect on here and I see it on a lot of posts. Trolls excluded as they should be kicked off the site.
Honestly the fact they even asked if they could
remove it and not tell anyone speaks volumes.

Im sure if the same thing happened to your family and someone was hurt, and their post on the internet just had people saying ‘oh you silly billy don’t do that! I don’t think thats a good idea! Hehe’ you’d wish someone had maybe been a bit more firm...

perhaps the harsh words make them realise the very possibly worse consequences of their stupid and dangerous ideas.

I know someone who used to have one of these put on after every service. I can't remember the exact details. The engineer used to sort of apologize but would say legally it had to be put on. They would then agree that it was actually safe. The engineer would go and the homeowner would take the sticker off. Went on for years.

why don't you just sort it out then, so no one puts that thing up again?

This is just common sense, I don't think it needs to be said what to do.

Tell the buyer there is this sticker and why. Tell them you have lived there without incident for years.
Tell them the issues highlighted are solved by keeping the valves opened the window shut.
