Tax is deducted at source on dividends paid even if directly held in a SIPP.  Applies to a number of European countries as well. 
Already hold Phoenix. Bought in with a yield of 7.8%.

Short Selling the odd is against the ordinary investor. This finance professor explains it thoroughly theoretically and statistically.

There is exception of course. For instance

-        If you have the internal Information

-        if you have the edge (to some extends)

-        If you belong to the Short seller market Manipulator which recently have seen a sharp increase  in number. They will produce a report with the main intention is to scare the people who hold that stocks to sell their holding, even at loss and they will buy it.

Yes, quite easily over the 4 years since I started investing, but that's due to having a portfolio biased towards US and China tech and cyclicals. Not what you would call a balanced portfolio. Obviously it's not without risks.

I failed to understand the logic of beating the market by composing one’s own fund and the need to balancee and rebalance it. The fee for well performing Mutual funds, ETFs are so cheap nowadays. it is even much less with  index funds, so it is probably much better to just ask people to do that for you and pay a small fee.

In addition to this you might want to add invidual stocks to invest which are not part of your fund for long holding, or even trade them because you might have the edge which might be based on the information you have collected and investing time to research that particular stock.

Moreover, the statistics has shown that in the long run, it is less than 10% of fund managers could beat the market consistently year after year.

But you might want to do that if you could convince yourself that your knowledge is the same level with these  top 10% fund managers which many people doubt it.
