Stamp Duty Holiday - Back Dated?

To be wasted by the bureaucrats, but if you mean the nursing staff, I would like to think so. Could also be to pay for the world beating app that was abandoned. Or the PPE equipment that was faulty. Or to build new prisons. Or a train service that nobody wants... there are loads to pick from.jimbog said:Some of that Stamp Duty will be going to the NHS0

I bought my house a month before the FTB exemption was introduced in 2017. I’d always expected to pay the tax and never really felt that I‘d lost anything - I just happened to be on the wrong side of the decision.
The changes in tax rules are not to reward or punish people; they’re to encourage certain behaviour. In this case, people are more likely to buy a house if they know they will get a tax cut. That’s the behaviour that the government wants, and the reason for the cut. There’s no benefit to the government of backdating it - you clearly didn’t need the incentive to buy, and there is no new behaviour the government needs from you that would be affected by backdating.4

So what date do you want as the cut off? A week ago, 2 weeks ago? Or 1 day - you do realise that if they move the cut off date back, then those people who completed a few days before that new cut off date will be upset and on here complaining! It is the not the government's fault that you completed before the changes were announced.firstTimeBuyerPaidDuty said:
Why are people on this forum so mean? How would you like it if this happened to you? Just don't comment anything if you have nothing useful or nice to people. It's enough that the government is mean to us but to have from other people as well -shame on you. We are not rich. We are hard working tax payers just like the ones who will complete on properties on the 8th of July instead of 7th. We isn't it in your best interest as well to implement things in fairness. That should be the goal. To create a compassionate and fair society. You are failing in both and I don't want to hear from you again until you've gone away and reflected on the things you said.SpiderLegs said:
You can sleep safely in the knowledge that the government will be spending your money instead.firstTimeBuyerPaidDuty said:I am just saying that first time buyers who have very recently bought a property are much more likely to spend that money and circulate it back in the economy.
In all of these things there winners & losers - in this case you lost!

Honestly you & them are wasting their / your time! But I can see next there will be a crowd funding page where some lawyer will take the Government to court & loose. But of course it isn't their money, so they won't care.matticace said:Please write to your MP(s) and sign the petition; we are starting to get traction! 👍 Simpson Millar lobbying the government to backdate the change. 👌 We’ve had to remove your signature. Me too. I'm shocked by the greedy and self-entitled behaviour that has been shown over the last few days with multiple people registering on this forum with the sole purpose of complaining and campaigning for a refund while, at the same time, they presumably live happily in their new houses.Moxley said:I bought my house a month before the FTB exemption was introduced in 2017. Yes there is a real movement starting with this one. Petition is up to over 5100 now so absolutely flying.matticace said:Please write to your MP(s) and sign the petition; we are starting to get traction! 👍 Simpson Millar lobbying the government to backdate the change. 👌
Granted it’s got some way to go to overtake this one -
Urge the Chinese government to stop the annual Yulin Dog Eating FestivalBut with a fair wind behind us we can knock that one off and get the same success that all those other great petitions have achieved.🤦0

If the could back date it to December 2004 that would be good for me.
Also,I bought a jar of coffee in Tescos last week, I noticed yesterday it's on offer and 50p cheaper, can I ask them for a refund.5

People poking fun at the ones asking for a refund is a bit silly imo. Most likely the majority of this windfall would go back into the economy for house renovation etc which is exactly what Sunak is trying to achieve with his "plan for jobs". Win-win, everybody happy.0
