OH, if that is happening to you, probably a good idea to copy in your boss.

If you don't tell, you will never sell ?
Of course Mrs Sturgeon should know what is happening to her voters.
What is happening to you is not exclusive ...... it's happening to many and .... if you wish you can help the many ..... or not, that really is up to you
Yes, I understand your point.   The problem is that copying Nicola Sturgeon into an e-mail won't help her 'know what's happening to her voters'; though it may draw it to the attention of one of Liz Lloyd's communication team.  Who may, or may not, bring it to the FM's attention, bearing in mind that it needs addressing at Westminster.    If Ian B decides to run with it, though, his team would definitely liaise with the FM's.

I'd agree that there is value in lobbying at Holyrood and Gordon Lamb, but to have much value it would need more than a couple of e-mails.

    Again: just an opinion.

  • For info only - reply from Ian (minor edits):

    Dear Joe,

Hope you're well. Thank you for contacting me regarding your experience with Smart Parking and their debt collection company and solicitors.

This is a company my Casework staff and other MP staff have experience of, their tactics when pursuing a PCN (Parking Charge Notice) is threatening and brutal, they have been unwilling to accept reasonable argument for constituents not making appropriate payments.

I have tried to speak to a Westminster Library expert on Transport regarding the Parking (Code of Practice) 2019 Act, this is an English Act, however the expert will be able to direct me on any link to Scots Law.

I will let you know when I hear back from the Library expert.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Ian Blackford MP
    Ross, Skye & Lochaber

He just needs to read the Act!  Section 12 (4)
    (4) This Act extends to England and Wales and Scotland

Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

You're right that this legislation will apply in Scotland; I interpreted the 'link to Scots law' to mean 'how this legislation will be implemented in the Scottish legal infrastructure'.

I've gone back to Ian's team with a couple questions; I'll post any material updates here when I get a reply. .

PoFA needs adaptation to incorporate Scotland, how the tweaking will pan out I think we are keen to see, but for sure, Keeper Liability in Scotland will be doing Scotland's population no favours at all. Tipping point for independence? 🥴😆

The reply is a bit cryptic, but I'll take it at face value:  you're right; there is no way of telling.  Duplicating a communication sometimes reinforces the message and sometimes dilutes it.   As a general comment, though: I can think of many instances where 'complaining to your MP' has had a positive effect, but none where 'copying the party leader' has magnified that effect.

Not meant to be cryptic.   Right now, Scotland is the dumping ground for CST scam letters chasing old parking tickets.  How many of your folk will just pay up is unknown ?
It's like covid, the more who get involved to kill it off, the better it will be.

I know Ian Blackford is good as I watch him on PMQ's and we just hope he shares this upwards and certainly with the Judiciary in Scotland.

Sorry for misunderstanding your last comment.  You're right that Scots are vulnerable to CST's flavour of mis-direction; single-offence parking cases are so rare in Scottish courts  that folk are unfamiliar with the basics of how to avoid them.

We'll see what Ian B's case team say.

Let me tell you, although I am in the south, my grandfather was a McNaughton from a little village called Braco in Perthshire .... his brother was the gamekeeper on a estate in Auchterarder.
His brother in law was the
Provost (mayor) of Dunblane   ..... I understand the Scots and thinking,
When this covid is over, I will be up there trout fishing.  In the meantime the Scots must trash the vermin that call themselves CST
