You are an imposter!  Clearly TheEffect is indeed the real Mystic Meg because he/she was correct.  First Direct have reopened applications for their current account today.  Sole accounts only at the moment, -joint accounts will be coming soon.
No £100 joining bonus now, though, by the look of it, although they are still paying £100 if you leave them.

conclusion that there's a lot of whingebags on this forum who if they had nothing else to moan about would probably just grumble that today is Thursday.
I would not moan if today was Thursday.
It was Monday when I woke up with a whole week of work drudgery ahead.
If today is Thursday, it means hump day is past and the weekend is coming 🙂

First time I've seen this thread.

Read page 1 & came to the conclusion that there's a lot of whingebags on this forum who if they had nothing else to moan about would probably just grumble that today is Thursday.
    Oh the irony.
I've noticed that's a standard type of response to any criticisms on here. Suggest the poster is doing the very thing they are criticising others for. It's like they feel the criticism is then effectively neutered and it no longer applies. So funny! The other tactic is to try and dig dirt. That apparently nullifies an argument too.

So that I am not criticised for being off-topic I would say that FirstDirect is too valuable a brand to let it die and online is clearly where banking is going - so letting it die makes no sense at all. I feel the HSBC brand is tainted and the public perceives FirstDirect as somehow much more acceptable - if they even associate it with HSBC at all.

Very much like M&S  (even though they have their own licence) and J Lewis who are bother underpinned by HSBC.
