Hi everyone...lovely weather again....am tired today as worked 6am -4.30pm....my plan is coming together nicely....regarding getting all the money together for bills.....my tiny bit of savings have arrived in the current account along with about £25 of interest....I'm up to £926 in the bank....I can pawn some gold..I have a jar of pennies and 5ps that can go in the machine at Asda(I know about the charge) and then I can cash it and deposit that.....I have some pound coins,50ps ,20ps etc.....not enough to make bags up but will put what I can in them and they will have to accept them..we have what we earn and as a last resort (if we are still short) we have had a kind offer off a friend to lend us a couple of hundred....(hoping not to need that).
RE ...bank accounts I have narrowed it down to Barclays and HSBC.....as they are both very convenient parking wise...I go to the bank 6 times a week!!!..so this is important....
I've had nothing to do with HSBC but have had a barclaycard in perfect order...and think because they have seen really large chunks paid off each month(when I owed money) it may be easier to get a bank account with them...
Wonder whether it'squicker to apply in branch or online...is it instant in branch?

Hi taxi - I really like A&L - no issues at all with them though like others whether that service survives the takeover remains to be seen. Make sure you have a little relaxation in that determined schedule - and proper looking after yourself too. Have no doubt you will get where you are heading!

Hi Taxi, barclays Def do a switching system, and when I switched mine from Halifax, Barclays offered a £1000 free overdraft while I was switching just to allow for the changeover etc......

  • Hi Taxi

It might be worth having a word with HSBC or phone Firstdirect and look on their website. HSBC used to be Midland Bank (I worked for them for 9 years) and Firstdirect is a subsidiary.

    Hope that helps!

On the tooth business pop into a sports shop and get a gum shield until you can afford the dentis. Never know, might do the trick and I grind in my sleep as well!

Thanks 1 step closer...I will pop into both as they are across the road from one another...nothing wrong with comparing both..then deciding....good idea about the gum shield as well...
    Thanks everyone x

I am impressed hun, i wonder as you are a regular payer that they will give you money bags and you can count it all up an pay it in, i thought they would do that..but if not those machines should do the trick..I have stashes of change bags everywhere..as Mr. B works for a PO i was thinking of letting him take them in..but i reckon i wouldn't see it:rotfl: :rotfl: Although he isnt that tight :o
I hope it all gets sorted out quickly for you x

  • Wow sorry Taxi I havent kept up to date for a few days and look what happens! I am really impressed too at how you are handling this. I think all banks makw mistakes. I have been with Natwest for yonks and cant face moving to the unknown. Never had a problem with them but I know from these bored several people have, HSBC were a nightmare for my OH ok he handled his account badly but their charges and treatment were appalling but thats another story.

First direct as a subsiduary are probably better as they pride themselves on service. OH now uses Barclays basic and no problems so far. Best as you say to check out both.

Good luck in the money building quest
