Heard a few bad things about Lloyds so will avoid them...Direct line sounds good but I have never heard of midlands bank so we don't have one here so that would be useless...I thought Direct line was linked with HSBC or is that another one?...not bothere dabout the interest as will be paying most of my spare money into my mortgage account offset.
My new taxi is waiting to go over the pits on wednesday so we are driving the hire car still xxx
  • HSBC and Midlands are the same bank. I am liking your go get em and stuff em attitude..hope you don't wear yourself out in the process. I will pray for rain, then extra taxi fares will be winging your way.x

That's that question answered...think I may go for that one..as we have two HSBC banks here and I can park near to them.Just need to get two months money together so I can have a month in each account so that while my DDs are being set up I don't get any missed payments and as soon as they are transferred I can close the Halifax.
The worry about the A+L is that because Santander took over Abbey and will be taking over A+L they may come as bad as Abbey....I read loads of complaints regarding Abbey!!!!
Will thoroughly research this though before deciding.Forgot to say when I was speaking to Barclays about CC they said they'd have no problem giving me a current account as I have an excellent payment record with them.
  • Yep i reckon Halifax, may well regret losing you..the idiots. Mr.B has also had reserves about A&L we used to have lots at the Abbey, but withdrew stuff when they were taken over.

Thanks for that . .....Could do with finding a survey on best bank accounts..think I need to do some googling...think I read somewhere that HSBC are quite strong in the current market.

I like your attitude too Taxi.

I can't recommend HSBC - my OH was with them and they treated him dreadfully. I hate them more than any other financial institution.

I'm worried about Santander taking over A&L too - I found Abbey really went down hill after the transfer. But I have nothing but praise for A&L so far. They have been excellent - and were brilliant when my card was cloned and money taken out in Malaysia. They rang me immediately, and the money was back in my account in a few days.

Good luck with it - I will think of you working your long days - hope you get some relaxation during the day.

Oh dear....I really don't know what to do...wish I didn't have to have a bank account at all and that I can deal cash for everything...life was so much easier then.
  • I am with the Yorkshire Bank have been for 20 years and have always been happy with them. I never hear them mentioned on this site I don't think?

I was with Yorkshire years ago and found them brilliant - best bank I have ever been with once after OH and I split up they noticed mid month I was heading to OD limit so sent me a letter advising me of this and asked if I wanted my OD limit raising till payday.
