Hope today is a good one, Taxi. We have a similar problem with farmers markets/local producers etc - we live in a huge farming area - but when I went to the local farm shop, the carrots were imported from holland!!!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Oof, you're out working by now taxi, but I hope its gone well - its sad to abandon organic food for a while, isn't it. I try to buy organc when I can still, especially root crops, but the budget just won't allow it at the mo - I'm looking forward to the day when I can go back, and go further with it. Fair trade, too.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Morning taxi...just catching up. Great that you have another replacement car & cheque which will help. Hope you sort it all out soon
Good that OH feeling better to and you seem to be feeling calmer? These things ARE annoying but its all part of lifes rich tapestry and sometimes gives us a boot. Know what you mean about not having a slush fund - I figured that better to pay as much off as I can & not have one but it does leave you vulnerable but in my case thats where CC's come in handy...Hugs for you!

Pinzy you would be mad to get into taxi driving just now due to a recession starting to bite(people stop going out to save money...even the early workers are getting buses or walking)....the cost of diesel is on the up every day.
I pay £141 per week for our radio system.
Settle day I guess is the day you pay your subs.
to become a taxi driver ...you now need to do a btec course approx cost £150
have a medical cost varies....one dr in my surgey will do it for £50 others £150
an enhanced CRB £41.50
sit a knowledge test
pay for your badge..ours £89.50 each.
If you own your own taxi...you have to have a pits test...£160ish....mot...even on brand new cars....pits can be up to 4 times a year....first aid kit, fire extinguisher, taxi insurance and public liabilty..minimum cost £1k up to about £3k....fuel,repairs and the list goes on.
If you are a half share driver you fill the car with fuel and then get half and still have to pay income tax and NI....and all the costs associated with your job.
It is hard to work out take home pay as every single day is different...in the amount you take or cost of fuel or if the car is off the road for any reason.I have still to pay my subs whether I'm working or not.
If I wasn't tied in now I think I would knock it on the head and get a proper job also a half share driver usually does 6x12 hours shift a week.
Thanks Taxi, I appreciate the details! Long hours aren't a problem, in fact I found when working 3 jobs previously that I kept all my money cuz I never had time to spend it!
Glad to see you and DH are back on the road again.0 -
I never realised it was so expensive..in the old days i suppose it was the licence and the insurance, and basic car costs with radio.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
