    Hi All,
A bit of advice and information if anyone can help me please ……
We became a NR customer yesterday and they took our first DD yesterday too.
I know the possible risks of them going bust are now getting greater, or at least it seems so.
My problems are that so far I haven’t received a single response to any of the 3 emails I have sent to them, I tried calling them but there’s a recording telling you to use email. I have sent emails to both help@ and compliants@ but no joy.
My SMET 2 smart meter doesn’t work - should I expect it to ?
More concerning though is my main unit Smart meter is reading zero !
How can I supply a meter reading if it says zero - it shouldn’t, we were with EDF before and it was working fine up to overnight Monday just gone.
Any help or advice greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Nobby.
What telephone number did you call?
    Hi,

This is the number I called - 0345 8622819 - it’s the only number I have and it’s the one they said to use in the emails that they have sent ( automated, not in response to my emails ! ).
Does anyone have a number that actually gets answered ?
    Cheers
    Nobby.
What was the subject matter of the automated emails Neon Reef sent you that were not in response to an emails you sent?

The only reference I can find to that number in this country is by somone posting it on Trustpilot months ago.
No they were just as I said automated, thanks for joining us, here’s your first DD amount and when we will be taking it.
Well, you learn something everyday here.

I never knew Neon Reef even sent a 'Thanks for joining us' email

They do send a 'Welcome to Neon Reef!' email, and that includes their welcome pack. That is in response to you making an application for them to supply you.

The welcome pack includes confirmation of how much your monthly DD will be and when it will be first collected.

But no where in that email or the attached file is there a phone number I can see for Neon Reef.

As you seem obsessed with this, and presumably think I am imagining it, here’s a screenshot of one of the emails, not a welcome pack, which did come later in the process.

  • So, can I please ask if anyone has a different phone number for NR that gets answered at all ?
Also, are there any customers who have a smart meter that has continued to work with NR after moving to them ?
    Many Thanks
    Nobby.

If the big man says "DO NOTHING" why on the MSE forum is that message being ignored? Surly he would say on his TV show or this site switch to NF it's the best deal? See if he mentions anything tonight. I'm ex-Symbio ported to EON but a company that operates at way under the cap rate and clawing higher DD's, failed to pay their licence fee on time only a month ago https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/neon-reef-limited-provisional-order, has thousands of negative trust piolet reviews and cannot be contacted rings alarm bells. Yes, I know you are protected by OFGEM but ask yourself this, if OFGEM wouldn't save your skin by porting you over would you switch? This panic switching is adding fuel to the fire just like when the news reported shortages at the fuel station and are now reporting toy shortages for x-mas. All rational seems to go from good minded people.

Your argument is totally irrational. There's no 'shortage' of energy accounts with a given supplier, nor could one be created by 'panic switching'. It's perfectly rational to switch to the cheapest available deal, even if that supplier is likely to go bust. I'm going to use the same electrons whatever supplier I'm with so it makes perfect sense for me to pay as little as possible.

I'm not really sure what I could possibly lose, even if Neon Reef go bust today. I've still benefitted from saving a few pence per unit for a couple of days. They might not go bust, or at least might survive a few more weeks so the savings can only increase. There are no circumstances under which I could actually lose money.

It's no bother to me if I have a trail of SOLRs who all need to figure out how much is owed. I keep detailed records of start/end readings. The worst case is that NR go under just after my DD payment and I have £40 credit, but I'd almost certainly end up owing that to the next SOLR anyway.
The panic switching I'm referring to is lack of processing power not the actual energy itself. It causes a knock on effect.

The issue is you are jumping to a small company which clearly can't cope in terms of communication and makes no sense how they can offer such low rates when others are going bust. When they do go bust (which is inevitable) it causes more work for OFGEM and the appointed mopping up company to pickup the pieces. You are right you personally have nothing to loose but multiply this by masses doing the same and who has to pay for all of this extra processing / porting,.... ALL OF US. Ask yourself these two questions...

If OFGEM didn't offer you a safety net would you switch?
Why is the big man not recommending switching to NF?

Unfortunately, that letter does not originate from Neon Reef, but from their DD agent, PSL.

You can tell that because it looks like PSL have not updated the NR address. They are showing the old UP address, and NR moved from there months ago.
Their current trading address is as shown on their website.

I suspect the phone number provided is an advice line provided by PSL

No, because as it states on their website, they are an online supplier only :)

That was why I was so obsessed by the telephone number you were allegedly provided by NR to contact them.

Apparently, according to at least one poster on MSE, not even the energy ombudsman has a  contact telephone number for NR.

I'm still getting automated emails from Avro asking for meter readings and whether I'm sure I want to switch.  Just automated systems without the people anymore :( Suspect NR is the same...

    1. If there was no safety net then no one would move from the big 6, and therefore there would be no smaller firms anyway- the fact is that there IS a safety net therefore people would be daft not to take advantage of it where possible. NR could be fine through all of this and come out stronger in April, and we have saved a fortune over the winter, and that’s just as likely as they were supposed to go bust yesterday according to reports and yet here we are still…

    2. Maybe he is with NR, and doesn’t want to be stuffed?  Or maybe if he said go to NR, that would shut the company even quicker

It would be irresponsible for him to recommend everyone to move to NR in this current climate. We've done it with open eyes and prepared to deal with the fall-out if NR fails. But the general public would point fingers at him if he was to push them in that direction.

A few weeks ago he was saying something along the lines of "the only fixed tariff below the price cap has just been pulled from the market so that's no longer an option". I do wonder which company he was referring to.

Edit: It was Sainsbury's Energy, operated by E.on Next. He mentioned and recommended them by name in an article on 14th Sep. So yeah, you can bet your bottom pound he's comfortable with recommending only the Big Six (whatever that means nowadays).

    WOW !
My last comment on the subject as I can’t foresee any value to this debate, other than feeding your obsessions.
the email I posted in screenshot for came from help@neonreef.co.uk.
As I said before, the phone number appears on all emails I have had from NR.
When I call the number it says thank you for calling NR please email help@NR or use our webchat facility.
it does NOT relate to a different business.
I am not ‘ allegedly ‘ providing anything that was ‘allegedly ‘ provided from NR.

This is the first time in many years that I have come across an individual such as you on a help forum, my experience has always been one of helping others and being helped. I find your contributions confrontational and not at all helpful, so please, if it’s possible for you, ignore my posts. I will certainly ignore yours.

Anyone can make any email appear to come from whichever email address they want.

If you actually look at the full email message, complete with headers, you'll see two servers mentioned, secure.ddprocessing.co.uk and smtp-cdc-02.smartdebit.co.uk (or some derivative of this.)  Both domains are owned by PSL (SmartDebit is a PSL company.)

They were correct that NR didn't send this email, their DD collector did.  Whether that matters or not is a different matter.
