Being hit by a massive 6k bill

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Have you tried to log into the Eon site lately. If you can download the bills and check that the serial number of the meter on the bill matches the one you have.
The bill showing the meter change would be a very good one to have.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Presumably the date code in the lower right corner suggests that the meter was manufactured in 2015, and the info at the top left shows that it was certified in November 2015. Assuming it was installed after being certified, there's no way a user of oil in a bungalow could have used that amount in a maximum of 4.5 years.Either it's faulty (well, it is Landis & Gyr !) or it didn't start off at 00000.0

Just out of interest approximately how much oil do you use a year. There might be another source of heating in your home that you're unaware of.0

Is the 64235 reading from today? How much has it gone up by since you took the photo? Please post another photo to show how much you've used in the hours since.
We need to establish if the meter is actually going up by ~48 kWh per day (so 2 units per hour on average).
Right now the possible scenarios are:- Meter wasn't at 0 - will be shown by your daily usage being normal, not 48kWh.
- Meter is faulty - can be tested by turning everything off and running something with a known consumption (say a 1kW heater) for an hour (should use one unit only)
- A faulty item or faulty wiring is causing excessive consumption - an energy monitor would help you to test if lots of power is being used.
- Maybe you have an electric immersion (or something similar) permanently switched on?
- Your meter is measuring energy used by another (or many other) property - can happen if a house has been split into flats etc. - meter will show usage even when everything is switched off.

If you're moving imminently you need to do some rapid research to see what's going on. Try taking readings every few hours to see what the meter says is being used. The flashing led gives an idea of consumption when it comes to shutting circuits off, in attempt to find out where all the juice is going. Switching off the consumer unit entirely with the master switch should stop all led flashing and meter incrementing.
All the evidence you collect before moving out is all you're going to have to fight with (plus common sense).
Thinking outside of the bungalow (!), is it detached or could an adjacent property be stealing your power for their cannabis farm?1 -
My money is on the meter switch, and the true start reading not being zero. It took me about a year to sort out when I had a similar cockup after they switched my meter.0

I've typed two posts now and both haven't posted....0

No underfloor heating that would be nice! We use about 2k L of oil a year, most of that is in the winter. Oil does our Hot water and heating. No immersion heaters or anything like that at all.Robin9 said:

Meter reading at 1700 - 64255
We've not been in much today as we are moving stuff to storeage. Just lights, laptop on charge for music and kettle for the odd cup of tea.Talldave said:If you're moving imminently you need to do some rapid research to see what's going on. I don't think anyone could be stealing power, but I wouldn't even know what I was looking for. The bungalow is a fully detached property
