  • Hey Babs, the recipe said to let the liquid evaporate (when frying up onions, garlic and mushrooms), but, I didn't do that enough I think & I used chestnut puree instead of chopped chestnuts, so I think that's why they collapsed....? Because the food processor conked out so I had the brilliant idea of using puree.... ooops... I don't think I will be able to persuade the relatives that they are edible, even if they do look like miniature cow droppings..... :s

Yes, turkey sandwiches/salad/with boiled veg/and again....  :s turkey so dry it dried your mouth out! Ergh....

  • How about roughly chopping it so it's not a pat? If it's still a bit too moist, put it back in the oven on a low heat to dry it a bit more.

I couldn't touch turkey for 10+ years after moving out, even then I would only buy a drumstick and make a curry with it!

I love nut roast but I'm also a fan of turkey. When I was getting rid of the debt a turkey drumstick and one of those stew bags of veggies used to be my Sunday roast. Both items came in at £2 :)

Good idea Babs.... I may just crumble it over the dinner if that doesn't do it (waste not, want not!)  :)

Well I don't eat it now, but, still remember the horrible texture of left-over dried turkey - literally felt like it sucked all the moisture out of your mouth (shudder)...

Well, that's a pretty good bargain DIA! Definitely cooking from scratch is the best value/taste, I have cheated a little with a bought Wellington & glad now after the stuffing went a bit cow-pat pear-shaped.... :D

  • I have had amazing good news - I was expecting holiday pay after the job went, but, didn't even try to figure it out because of, well brain farts. And was told they couldn't tell me when I would get it. I haven't had any paperwork yet either, so really wasn't looking....

My bank sent me a 'ping' text showing what I thought was a crazy mistake for my balance. I checked and holiday pay was £3,455!!! I was so shocked, had to keep checking and re-checking! I cannot describe the joy and relief I am feeling right now. I had raided the cupboards this morning to donate for the food bank today and I was about to take it in the wally trolley, when I got the text!

I am doing virtual cartwheels and feel that this Christmas is a heck of a lot brighter now. o:) The very best thing is I can now pay back the loan to the relative at last - £1,000, they won't expect it, so it will be an amazing surprise for them too.

I can start the New Year off with no debts to anyone, and feel the EF is full enough! My focus is going to be on a household maintenance fund for this poor old place, plus DIY which has been neglected. Feeling hopeful for a better year now!

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and an even better New Year! Sings 'Joy to the world....'  :D

  • Cheers Skinty! It makes an incredible difference to my peace of mind! I am so excited I am shaking, and I have written a cheque for my relative with a note thanking them for their generous help at a sorely needed time, sadly need to distance from them, so I will be leaping up and down on their driveway later waving it! They might think I have gone slightly crazed, ha!  :D

  • Tootling off to the food bank now, with a big grin on my chops, and yes I have actually remembered to get the food out that needs defrosting for tomorrow! Hope everyone has a lovely day tomorrow, even a quiet one is nice, in front of the soppy Xmas films.... :D
