I was wondering if you are working from home or furloughed? In theory having time to do everything to your house is great but going to work does give you a respite from the feeling of living in an episode of Homes under the Hammer.

    Thanks Stingey

We had looked at new front and back doors, new boiler and new kitchen - all put on hold for the time being.

we love the area and have been here for 10 years it’s just the house isn’t what I expected, I feel down as my wife is so enthusiastic and wants to get stuff done but I just can’t shake this feeling no matter how hard I try.

im looking at what’s coming on the market every day, if we didn’t buy this house we would have been staying with my parent as we sold our last place, so in a way I feel lucky to have a house I really wanted with many positives but now I’m here I want to just sell up and go.

the quick house buying company was a route out of the 6 months (5. Months now) situation but say that completes in a month in back to having nowhere to go or just private letting.

I honestly don’t know what to do, I feel like we have been so unsettled for a year and now it’s going to go on longer because of the way I’m feeling.

I think you need counseling. Seriously.
There's something up and its not the house.
Especially if you think a new build is the answer to your angst.

Go and see someone. Go private because it will cost a damn sight less than selling up. And perhaps your marriage vanishing as well.

EDIT: OK just seen you've talked to doc. Good stuff. Keep us posted.

I was furloughed for 10 weeks, I returned back to work on Monday this week but I work from home so no escape as I’m here a lot of the time.

You need some form of break, escape from work as you have no work / life balance when working from home let alone working in the home.

Have you got a spare bedroom you can convert into an office / work space for now? If so, do it. You can then close the door and walk away outside of your working hours.

Take a breather from doing DIY, normally I say move in, live with the home for a while before doing anything. A spot of painting is fine but not what you have done. I won't be the only one who has read your posts and thought 'im not surprised you feel how you do'.

Are you having any walks away from the home to settle into the area, see what's on your doorstep and a bit further out? If not, try and do that.

In several months, when your head is clearer, things have turned into the 'new normal' and everything is so closed in, you can then think about what to do.

For now, take the tablets, see how you are in a few weeks and if the same / worse get back to the Dr for a change or increase.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

Really great to hear going to your GP has helped.
When I moved to my last house I had put so many hopes and energy into the idea of it. The reality was I was actually very lonely (had been living with family between houses) and this ended up causing severe depression. I blamed the house but it was actually just me. After a while I got so much better and adored my little home and learned to love living alone.
I think we often build up to something so much that we can crash a bit when it becomes reality.
    It will get better
