In the case of you running with only 3 GB of RAM.

You can max it out at 8 GB of RAM for as little as £8.

Thanks. I didn't realise RAM could be had for this price. But the problem is that most CEX stores are closed and when I try to buy online you can only buy 2 of these and it charges £1,95 postage for each item. I will wait for the store to open.
About the SSD, mymemory are refusing to cancel or swap my order as it is already despatched. I will have to return it for refund and then pre-order. I might keep the Kingston ssd unless the risk of failure is too high.
    Thanks
I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T

You can just buy one module for now, taking your PC over the basic 4 GB or RAM usually recommended for a 64-bit OS.

It's always worth trying an SSD, and <£10 on RAM is always worth a punt, but if that's not enough, I think in your case the CPU is likely to be the issue.

Your CPU is 11 years old and was not top spec to begin with. At this point, a £40 CPU would several times faster than the one you are using. There does come a point when they run out of steam and that point is probably coming soon if it has not already arrived.

Not at all, the SSD and the addition of RAM will bring it up to speed, if this is the case:

I use it for simple tasks like, emails, browsing, printing or downloading simple stuff.

For the OP stated use case.
SSD and memory should sort it.

While the cover is off a good clean.
I had to take the fan off the cpu heatsink to get to the accumulated dust.

I took the £ hit and put 4 new matching sticks in mine. (Dr memory £20 sometimes no stock,  £30 easy).

Most cex stores seem to only 1 or 2 sticks.

I think I have broken my computer. I disconnected the hdd and put in the ssd after connecting it with the 2 cables and added the 2 gb DDR2 memory. When I turned on the computer, the screen was weird with black and white lines. Nothing else happened. I turned off the pc and undid everything ie reconnected the hdd. Now the computer turns on there is a beep and nothing happens n the screen stays black. I will put the pictures here. Is there anything I can do....

Take the new memory out leaving memory as it was before. Check screen cable is securely inserted at computer and screen end.

Thanks. That's what I have done. The new memory is out, screen cable is in and checked all connections in and out. When I turn pc on, I hear a beep and that's it. I used to hear the hdd noise which is not there. Have disconnected and reconnected hdd but nothing happens. Same thing with ssd.

Might have to look at beep codes (you said single beep?) But try this first. 1. Leaving power lead plugged in, turn off switch at power socket or plug/extension lead. 2. Press power button DOWN and count 20secs. 3. Lift finger off, switch back on again at wall. Try computer again.
