Unable to Cancel AA Breakdown membership

I had a letter from the AA to say it was time to renew my membership, and that I needed to call in to cancel. When I called to cancel, the agent ([Name removed by Forum Team]) told me I could only cancel within the last 14 days of membership due to coronavirus. When I told him that was nonsense and I needed to speak to his supervisor, he said they didn't have supervisors or managers. What kind of appalling service is this, and is it a typical AA response?

What has the agent’s name got to do with anything?1

Put it in writing, send it to them.

Call them again and see if you get someone more helpful. Make it clear you don't want to renew and ask for a confirmation email. You can also ask your credit card company to block any future payments to the AA or if it was a direct debit, you can cancel it.0

Due to Covid 19 and reduced staff AA are only dealing with renewals due within the next 14 days. Presumably this applies to cancellation as well.0

It's more like "due to reduced profits the AA are making it harder to cancel in the hope you can't be bothered and pay their inevitably rising premiums."1 -
...yep had my renewal come through today with the inevitable 15%+ increase from last year. Really getting fed up with this "bartering" you have to do every yr...(been a member for 40+ years and every year it's the same battle to get them to reduce the annual increase to a reasonable amount.Getting a little fed up with it now, particularly as (I accept due to COVID), they are unable to answer your call.May be time to change?.."It's everybody's fault but mine...."1

Just received my renewal docs too. Gone up from £128 to £190!!!. Will definitely cancel direct debit and contract as I have had a quote from my car insurer for equivalent breakdown cover for £60 (including a discount for already having car insurance with them). Just got to gear myself up to have the conversation with AA, once I am within the 14 days renewal period. I agree with all the above about the bargaining every year and, as they are not changing tactics, will be saying Good-bye......0

....£128 to £190 is seriously taking the p1s!!..would be interested to hear how they justify that?.."It's everybody's fault but mine...."0
