You could do with a padlock for the fridge and cupboards.

Maybe she should buy her own food at her own expense and you charge a set amount for heating food and refrigeration etc?

She is either a "lodger" who does her own food and pays for it - or a "boarder" who eats what she is given - at the moment you are getting the worse of both worlds.

I had to smile when you mentioned the parents evening and can imagine her telling the poor parents exactly what she thought and being amazed when all hell broke loose!

DD making breakfast so feel quite spoiled and need to go shopping later if I can get a lift from DH.

Have gammon for tea with roast potatoes, mushy peas, cabbage and baby corn.

DD working till 5 so will keep something aside for her.

DH has heard somewhere that there are foods that "absorb chloresterol" so fancies eating more of those - he has no idea what is chloresterol level is :rotfl: but it will not do him any harm to eat more oats, pulses and veg.

  • Morning all,

CM -we should be off to church in 5 mins but ds1 is still asleep and after all the exams this week we have decided not to wake him.
Stef- that is so annoying for your daughter. Ds2 had dinners for a week two weeks ago - and because he is one of the few children who love cauliflower cheese - it seemed they were reheating the tray for him every day instead of other veg!!! He was happy to get back to lunches. I sometimes give them a tub of tortilla chips to go with chilli etc - seems to help the crisp cravings.

Ds1 is going to see Beowulf for a birthday party - the rest of us are supposed to be playing golf - but it's raining - so I shall carry on with the curry marathon. We got takeaway after a concert on Friday night - and it was ok but not sparkling. So I am filling the freezer with a selection of HM curries in takeaway containers - so we can pull out 2-3 if we fancy a takeaway coming up to Christmas. So far 1 chicken korma, 2 beef dum gosht, 3 lamb rogan josh. Today it will be chicken TM, chicken with lemon and coriander, beef do piaza, saag aloo, black beans with mushrooms and tarka dal, and tandoori chicken.

I am about to apply for a bookkeeping job - 10 hours a week and some flexibility in the school hols - just round the corner - and I have agreed to volunteer in the kitchen at the local Methodist Mission (food hygiene certificate came in useful) for 5 hours a week as well on 2 days - so I am going to have to get more organised than I am currently. If I get the job, I think I will have one day a month cooking up stuff for the freezer.

Have a good day everyone - our decs go up on Thurs evening as it is our party for dh's students next Sat.

    Morning everyone:santa2:

I read this on yesterdays thread but it was late - well, early this morning - and so I didn't get a chance to respond:

Susie, I totally understand....it's Saturday night and here we are on the internerd...just like last Saturday, and the Saturday before and the Saturday before that.... sometimes it'd be just fabulous to have a friend to whine to, to get a bit tipsy with, to be sit and giggle with, to talk about nothing important with, who will remember to forget what we said, and who understands but isn't as involved as family are... Wish I knew the answer to this conundrum we are in. I suspect that there are many like you and me but somehow we can't find each other.

Chin up chicken, you aren't doing too badly in life, you do have a lot to be happy about even if it's not perfect. Maybe heads together to figure out how to solve this common problem? Anybody else agree?

I think there are times when many peoplel feel this way and is perhaps why internet forums have grown the way they have. Apart from a couple of mse'rs, I don't know you all personally, but I know I could come here for advice if there was a problem that needed dealing with.

One of the problems with the internet is that you don't really know who is behind the username, so building trust can be difficult, and although it's a shame that we have to be weary, that's unfortunately how it is. I often take things I read at face value, but even on mse you will have posters who are not truthful. Trusting your own judgement comes into it as well, I suppose.

Your words were lovely snowy and had me thinking about them as I tried to sleep. Kyle, I hope you don't feel so down for long, and that there is a solution to feeling the way you do. learning to drive is sound advice and something for you to think about.

Back to today, and most of the decorations are up:j :snow_grin

We're going to decorate the tree shortly before we settle down to a christmas movie. It's "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" and I'm singing the song already. I've got a glittery wig on [found in the decorations box:rotfl: ] and am feeling the christmas spirit. If you lot could see me now:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

It's really horrid outside so I'm glad we've got indoor plans.

I made fruit scones last night so had two of those with jam for breakfast. Dinners already sorted, just need to put the roasties on, and need to make another loaf as the girls finished yesterday's one off this morning. I've been using half white and half wholemeal to get a 50 - 50 loaf as DD1 doesn't like pure wholemeal:rolleyes: , although I'm gradually using less of the white and she hasn't noticed yet.

Hpe your sore throat eases dlb, and you're feeling better Penny-Pincher!! Hopefully you wont end up with flu FunkyFairy. is your DS better now?

    Congrats on your winnings plumduff55.

Ouch! redruby - are you ok? _party_ Happy birthday _party_ to your OH.

Your christmas plans sound lovely anniebooklover.

Your lodger tales get better and better Hardup Hester. I actually look forward to the next instalment of what she's been up to. How has she managed to stay your lodger for this long?

With regards the christmas cards, how about sending e-cards that we can print out if we want. That way everyone will be getting cards from people who we actually know a bit about and who may perhaps mean more than someone you just send a card to every year but don't keep in touch? It's not difficult to set up an email addy specifically for the e-cards.

I was only going to do a short post today as I want the tree finished so we can have a relaxing afternoon, but it turned into a rather large one. Sorry.

Will pop back later and see how everyone is.

:grouphug: HUGS:grouphug: to all who need or want one.

    Enjoy your Sunday

    Back again.

Just a quick one this time.

A thought with the christmas cards.

Printing out e-cards isn't very moneysaving with the use of ink, so how about everyone buys a pack of cards, then using pms people send each other christmas greetings and we just copy and paste into word and print that out and stick it in our cards?

That way, there's no need to set up or give out email addys and for those who haven't revealed their names online, it can still be done on pm.

That way, the christmas greetings will mean something to us all individually and will mean we all have loads of chrissy cards from people who we have contact with daily.

    Any thoughts?

    Good Afternoon All

Im a little late on with posting. Lovely & sunny, but cold windy & raining! Glad I dont intend to go anywhere today.

I did have good intensions when I woke up, to crack on with some housework, but DD decided to put Shrek The Third on, so I had to sit & watch it! Might do a flick through again like I did yesterday, and do thorough clean in the week.

OH, was up early and tackled the food shopping. He know's I dont do crowds when it comes to shopping. He's now tiling again!

I will prep the veg in a mo to go with our roast chicken dinner. And may bake another batch of carrot cake!
Just about caught up with the washing, so after dinner, I might be able to have some "me" time, and perhaps watch Elf later with the kids.

N9eav - well done on your bargain find with the suitcases! Dont forget, you could always ask on freecycle if you need any more. And then when you done, donate them to charity.
stressedoutmum - I thought about doing the blanching too thing with the veg for Xmas!
donny-gal - Im handy with a paint brush, and I dont mind stripping! (wall paper that is) I'll do you a swap, house clean & keep 2 kids occupied!
Twink - well done for y-day! £700 is fantastic!
Dlb - hope your feeling better soon! If you read this, the engineer came out yesterday for the TD, so need to wait for him for me, thank you again!
Catowen - can I come to yours for hot chocolate & marshmallows!
Pen-Pin - hope your feeling better soon
redruby - sounded like you had a fab time, and well done for conquering the london eye! Happy Birthday to OH.
Kyle - I agree with everyone! The world is your oyster once your'e driving, no relying on public transport, or others to take you places! Go for it girl! Your'e a great mum, and with a great mum like Twink to support you, you'll go far in life!
stefjb - Cant believe the cheek of some schools, knowing your DD is a veggie, they should at least save her a decent veggie meal! You do right with putting her on sandwiches!
Hester - I agree with what elona says, let her buy her own food! Then she'll soon realise how cushy she's got it!

Anyway, Im going to put away all the clean washing now & iron the uniforms for tomorrow, and then prep dinner
    Have agreat day

Hi Kyle. I did think about the problem of exchanging details after I posted about the e-cards, which is why I thought just sending a pm through mse and people printing those messages out and sticking them into cards themselves might work.

That way, no personal details are exchanged, and although we have chosen our own cards, the messages sent in a pm would come from others on here.

For example I could send a pm to someone saying "I hope you and your family have a really nice christmas and a fantastic new year." Of course, the messages would be more personal to those we know more about, if you see what I mean

That person would then print out the message and stick it in a card - one card sent without personal details exchanged.
