  • So am I correct in thinking that with an NS&I Income bond I can add money to it after the initial deposit

Yes - but at least £500 per deposit - until you hit the bond's limit of £1m.

Is interest accrued on pending transactions? I have a large card payment pending for over a week now.

Sigh, round and round we go
It's all there on the website:

now click the + sign on the expanding panel half way down which says "Why has my balance not updated...."

I made a bank transfer yesterday, expecting it to go into the NS&I ether until after the 5th, and was surprised to find it was in my account this morning.
  • My first experience of investing in NS&I accounts got me nervous. They are not quick, are they? Reading the comments here is vaguely reassuring. I suppose that, on reflection, it's a bit like receiving refunds from the tax man; don't expect an immediate response - and be pleasantly surprised if it happens. What is clear to me is that, if I know that I am going to need to withdraw savings in order to cover an upcoming bill, do it at least a week before I've going to need the money! Incidentally, does anyone here have any idea how long it generally takes for an interest payment from an Income Bond to make it into my nominated account? It's been flagged as paid, but I ain't seen it yet.

Clearly totally random. 24 hours later, and I'm still waiting!

I have a vision of government departments being the last bastion of little men in brown overalls. They live inside what appear to be huge supercomputers, with much of the room being taken up by enormous kettles. It's hard to explain otherwise how it is that a computer system can be so remarkably slow.

I tried to deposit money into NS&I savings bond. I couldn’t register because it said that I already have an account number. I can’t remember having any account for over 20 years and recovering an account number is a long drawn out process. I think the system needs updating, I’ll have to find somewhere else to put My money.

NS&I's day-to-day running has been outsourced for at least two decades. It's currently run by Atos with a contract to 2024. It could be that its systems are being maintained rather than improved in any meaningful way, though.
