About a week or so ago I took our 14month old dog for a walk at the small park near our house. As I walked on the other side was a dalmation with their owner, not on a lead. Dalmation ran over and started to play with mine who was on an extendable lead. Dalmation wasn't very tall and was playful, so guessing they were also a young dog. Owner kept calling the dog to return. It ignored her, regardless of whether I stood still or continued walking. Owner started shouting at the dog the kind of things you say to a small child  such as Right, I'm going home without you, I don't need this. Dalmation unsurprisingly ignored her. I shout to owner I will continue to walk in her direction so her dog comes closer to her. I  was thinking  i would return to her at that point. Owner doesn't reply to me that time, nor any of the other couple of times I call to her.

Eventually I get up to the exit she's at. At this point I'm a good 10-12ft away. She backs further away a good 20ft or more  by some garages and close to the nearest road. I see she's in a nurses/carers uniform. She shouts to me (the first thing she's said) "I can't come near". I reply to her that I understand that and I've no intention of coming within 2metres of her, I thought she'd be able to get her dog back this way. She still doesn't answer me. I stand and pause a few minutes thinking she'll suggest to me what to do for her to retrieve her dog. She doesn't. Eventually I walk away with my dog saying to her 'I'll leave you to sort it out then' Again no response. As I continue my walk with the dalmation still running round, I get closer to the place I walked in at. My house is on this street. I start really worrying about the dalmation following us who in a few minutes will be on a residential street. The owner is still at the opposite end of the park near the garages. I decide to pick my dog up wondering if me removing him as playmate would work. After a few steps it did and dalmation returned to owner. If people are so frightened that they daren't speak to someone from a well over 2m away and daren't be 4metres away from a stranger either, I am wondering how long this will continue for.

If someone is so daft as to not understand social distancing rules to that extent, I'm not surprised they are incapable of looking after a dog.

I found the chart in this link quite reassuring

It shows the number of new cases in your area. In my location it's two in the last week. That's not to say I don't think we should have social distancing etc but it does put things into perspective somewhat
The trouble is we live in a coastal/holiday location, so once the lockdown is lifted we'll be infiltrated by people form all over the UK again - so I can see the numbers going up again then.

Also - with the WHO advising over 60s to wear medical grade masks - any idea what they actually mean?

It's clear to see when out that different people have different responses. There are those who will happily squeeze right by you to get to a supermarket shelf and then those who stand behind you, refusing to overtake whilst you look at something! I just feel awkward as though I'm holding people up. Some people appear pretty relaxed whilst others jump in the bushes as soon as they see you. I'm more worried about upsetting other people or being told off by someone even though I try to be as careful as practically possible. I'd rather have my food delivered but there doesn't seem to be any delivery slots. This weekend there are a load of Black Lives Matter protests. Racism is obviously wrong and shouldn't be tolerated but gathering in groups is putting people at risk. Seeing the news there still seems to be hundreds of deaths a day. I think the easing of restrictions was too early and was driven by economics. It's too late to re impose restrictions now.

I live in a coastal town and the beaches have been busy here for weeks.

As a general comment the day trippers go to the main, well known beaches while the locals head for the quieter, less known spots.

I ventured out to a garden centre this week - the first time I,ve been beyond my house boundaries since lockdown began. - not because I needed anything but because I recognised that if I didn make such a move soon going out I to the wider world risked becoming an anxiety issue for me.  So I masked up, wasn,t there long, the world didn,t come to an end and I felt less anxious for having done it.
We can only control what is within our own decision parameters.  I recommend that if anybody is starting to feel anxious they learn to practice meditating. Just sit comfortably  for ten minutes, close your eyes.  Breathe deeply and try to concentrate just on your breathing.  It can have a very calming effect.

You do also need to look at in terms of the population of your area.

I haven't read that advice however if you are living in Wales as your user name suggests you will be getting some different guidance as are those in Scotland than we in England are.
Everything I've seen has said medical grade masks should be prioritised for the NHS and those on the front line. You may need to do a bit of googling to clarify things. I find a lot of things are being advised but how to get hold of various things is difficult.

As an update to my recent posts the R number in the North West has gone above 1. It's also the case in other regions. Roughly 20 miles down the coast from me has been a constant hot spot. After the virus broke out Liverpool Football Club played players from Madrid at Anfield.. The supporters from Madrid were marched as always by the police through the town all the way to the football ground . Why that match wasn't cancelled defies belief .
There will have been many from that area on the beaches and in the towns during the hot weather so it 's likely there will be another spike and more cases.
Thankfully the Mayor of Manchester and the NW Metro mayor are doing their best. Schools have not reopened and hopefully are unlikely to for a while.
    Take care all
