We posted it at the same time. I too watched it with my DDs - and my DS. He was riveted! My DD3 has recently read the book so was able to fill us in on all the bits that were missed out.

Morning Seaxwyn! I haven't read the book for 25 years ( ) so perhaps I have this very faded recollection of it, but I just wasn't gripped by the film. Don't get me wrong, it was nice to watch, but I thought they made far more of Pauline than I remember in the book - she sort of took over!

**hypno makes mental note to get Ballet Shoes from the library.......for DD of course :o **

I agree - too much Pauline.

It's over 30 years since I read the book but I did remember it vividly. One thing I enjoyed about the film version was all the period costumes and details, the lodgers were all very good.

If your library hasn't got a copy, I'll gladly lend you mine.

Hope you have a good day and get all your jobs done.

I remember having a boxed set of books - ballet shoes, one about ice skating which I loved but can't remember the titles and the others escape me completely! I feel a trip down memory lane coming along........a free activity for the holidays......put up with mum while she finds this *really* old book :rotfl:

The ice skating one could be White Boots.... I've got that as well. Tell me if your library hasn't got them and I'll send them over. I loved them too, but I have never reread them as an adult for fear of being disappointed.

White boots! That's the one! About a girl who had polio and was recommended ice skating as a way of getting her muscle strength back?

I have a habit of going back and re-reading books I read as a teen - generally it is good because you see them from a whole different angle, picking up extra bits you missed as a child/teen. I recently re-read To kill a mockingbird - how fantastic is that when you don't have to pull it apart for English Lit!!

On a different subject, OH has just taken the car to the main vauxhall dealer for them to tell us what it will cost to repair, and the good news is they didn't charge us for putting it on their diagnostic computer thingy, the bad news is they can't tell us what is wrong with it because they've never had those codes appear  So they will have to work through it bit by bit to see what the problem is   I see a very large labour cost coming on

Need to get my act together, financially, to cover this - I have signed up to the £10 a day challenge, simply to try and motivate me in the new year.

So, as a start, I need to get dressed, and get into "work" mode.......I have clients booked in for tomorrow, so hopefully £120 after paying for the hire of the clinic room will be coming my way. I need to do some prepping for that, and have some e-mystery shops to do before 7th, which will bring in another £100, plus still have some ongoing work I need to get on with, and some college work that has to be in by 7th as well.

so, it is now 10 past 9, I will make another coffee, sit on MSE until 9.30, then get showered, dressed, have a quick blitz of the housework for about half an hour, then get working........

    Hi hypno06,

Im very into cars and my OH knows nearly everything about them, what is wrong with your car? Main dealers charge a fortune, i find local garages are much more friendly and cheaper!

:hello: hypno. I watched Ballet Shoes last night, mainly because I wanted to see how Emma Watson did out of Harry P, but I felt it just.. ended! It was really quick and abrupt. I think I'll have to get the book out now to read the rest ;) hope the car isn't expensive :( x

I took it to one local one, who couldn't tell what it was either, and the other local garage that we have used in the past are on holiday until 6th Jan. Problem is that we need it to take the kids to France on 5th Jan, so in a bit of a hurry, and everyone is on hols!!

Even the main dealer couldn't tell what was wrong with it from the computer readout, so I can't give you any clues!!

    Great, hey!!

I have done three mystery shop things so far today - £30 worth, so getting there. Am aiming for another couple completed before visitors arrive, then will get on with other work later this afternoon/evening.

The children have taken all their saved money from the sealed tin to the post office and have come away with a nice amount of euros and swiss francs ready for their trip. The combination of saving in the tin and asking for euros for Christmas from people has provided sufficient and fairly generous IMHO spending money for their trip. :T
