HI snaggles. I haven't really looked, to be honest I try to avoid thinking about it. We like the location we are now, which is easily walkable to the children's schools, the town centre, the station etc. We have a 4-bed house, and the jump to 5-beds seems to add a colossal amount in terms of price - as mostly the 5-beds around here are large Victorian piles. Having said that, I have no idea what our house is worth. I just can't think about it, but even mentioning it on here is a step forward so perhaps I'll be able to find the courage to look into it.

I'm very pleased to hear you've found a good house - do you think you will buy it?

House-moving is a subject which preys on my mind too. Only because we don't have enough bedrooms and my 10-year-old DD shares with my 6-year-old DS and I don't know how long this arrangement can continue.

How big is the room? No way of putting a partition wall down the middle (My dad did this to convert a 2 to a 3 and in my nana's house, a 3 to a 4).

It does make for small rooms though.

    What about the loft?

Hi ztd. Alas no way of partitioning the room - and it's already in the loft! The house has been extended as much as physically possible. There's always the shed of course...

    Hi OO

The house was great - I've put some photos and the scary figures on my diary - I'll find the link for you.

Sea, yes I hope so - I would love to. I think the problem with 5 bed houses is that there are just not as many of them, and that tends to inflate the price. But loft conversions are not always *that* expensive, so that might be an option if you have a decent sized loft (which I'm guessing you may do with a 4 bed house - we couldn't do it as the room it would make would be tiny, and it would take so much off the master bedroom, it wouldn't have been worth it).

Edit - sorry, cross post - I see you have already done that! :o

Some people convert their garage - of course that depends if it is attached to the house.

Could the sharing arrangements not be switched at all Sea?

Sorry to ask Sea, but are any of your children of the age where they might be considering moving out any time soon? I hate to think of my kids moving out, but just trying to think practically.

Seaxwyn, have you looked at some of the newer houses? We're in a 6-bedroom house at the moment, and just sold it for very little more than 4 beds in the same area. Even if you couldn't get something with more bedrooms, you might find something with a layout downstairs that could be changed, like a seperate dining room or study that could be done away with? My sis-in-law did that, and the difference it made to the amount of peace and quiet from her 11yr old daughter was fab, since she didn't have to share it with 'baby' sister any more!

Morning!! All thought of house moving is out of my head fior the time being, I can't afford to think about it. One of the houses is on my way to work though, so I am bound to re-ignite the desire in about 45 mins time :o

Seaxwyn, all I can suggest is have a look and you may be surprised. Some people want a quick sale, so you get a bargain, and there is always the possibility of buying something at auction. But you must know your own sum first. Also would depend on OH staying on at the uni, otherwise any bigger mortgage payments would be even harder to find.

Bank charges case starts today........fingers crossed.
