Duchy, that's awful. It's frightening that such confidential information is treated so casually.

Mooloo have I read that your daughters have some learning difficulties? Sorry if I have got this wrong and I am not prying I was just wondering if maybe there is something specific they have been diagnosed with and if there are any associated charities that you could get a grant from?

The girls have ADHD. dyslexia, dyspraxia and autism. On a mild basis the last one. We are still arguing the toss with everyone. But as we moved areas, the records from the past are having to be chased up. Its all taking time. My bankruptcy is holding me back as nobody will give me a lease. I didnt know that I was going to end up with the girls back home and having babies too!! But that seems the council are just not interested at all.

After today's encounter with the local social workers Mooloo I wish you luck. I hope yours aren't as gormless as the ones around here
I'm going to shamlessly hijack as I need to vent.
Last week my neighbour had 2 people knock of her door looking for Mr and Mrs "Smith". She told these official looking people with a clipboard that she'd lived there over a year and the previous people weren't Smith either. They went away but today she got a letter (which she opened without looking) addressed to Mr & Mrs Smith with a letter and enclosing a copy of a social worker's report following a home visit regarding a report that their 8 year old had been behaving sexually inappropriately at school. It was clear that they were the clipboard people so had obviously found the correct address (date was the same) but never bothered to correct the address and so it got sent to the wrong address. My neighbour brought the letter to me asking what on earth she should do. I raised merry hell with social services about confidentiality and pointed out that they could have had a lynch mob on their hands. It was made worse by the fact the father is a public figure religously in the community. They say they can't understand why the address wasn't changed and got to listen to my big lecture about confidentiality and responsibility both on the phone and again when a senior social worker rushed around to collect the letter.
Honestly where do they FIND these people ????
(Apologies about the hijack but REALLY needed to vent and obviously can't vent around here and didn't really want to put it on an open thread for all and sundry)

I think that some social workers are good, but some are under too much pressure to do the tasks needed. its awful what happened to your neighbours situation. I hope that that doesnt happen here, but I do find that they are obsessive. and that the fact they sort of held me to ransom over BBJ, was hard enough. Not sure who all knows my situation, but it seems to be a bit unique, with it being two twins, both with the same "problems", both getting pregnant, 7 weeks apart, and both needing to come home to me.Cos social say they cant live on thier own. Social services are a necessary resource, but occassionally they get it wrong. Even if they dont mean to. I still have faith in the fact that my grandson is protected, but it is a bit excessive at times. (like I cant leave them overnight, or for more than a couple of hours). The girls can feed, and change thier babies, and show more attention to them then they ever did dolls. Infact I cant remember them playing with dolls very much at all.!!!

Mooloo: I do not know how you manage to stay sain?

I dont think I am sain at all!! I think that I have left my body at times and am just looking down on a nightmare, but then one of the babies gives me a smile and Ihave to melt. Its been the hardest 5 months of my life, or was that the year. bankruptcy seems to be so simple compared. Just holds me back when I want to do things for my family. Thanks for the vote of confidence though. I obviously come over as sain, so thats a miracle in its self. x

  • Social workers have many people to deal with I wouls suspect, so do not perhaps have time or resource to really understand the 'whole picture'. With that I mean, your needs. They only look after the childrens needs.
  • I got divorced 3 years ago and thought my world had fallen apart. They say time is a great heeler, but they are wrong.

I suppose if Duchy's neighbour hadnt opened the letter addressed to Mr and Mrs Smith, it would not have been known. At one time it was the Post Offices responsibility to deliver post to the addressee. It was also illegal to open post addressed to anyone else? Does that not stand now?
But the fact that confidencial material is out there so easily is a bitter pill to swallow.
Mind you if anyone i knew was at risk, I would rather the leak, or the avid intervention, than being ignored like that little girl in london, several years ago,, cant thnk of her name, winoma, or something like that> Came to Uk t live with an aunt, they abused her, she died. So if Social want to intervien, I need to work with them, or loose my daughter and grand child, or heaven forbid all of them? even though it is tough, 6 of us in a 2 bed flat. Least we are family and have each other

As normal, they are underfunded and have lack of resources. Even though I am caught in their net, I do realise that the job they have to do, is one of the hardest jobs to do. I have nothing but respect for them. Even though my life has been changed and held to ransome at times. At least Iknow that my grandchld is protected.
