It's all gone 'tits up' so to speak.
A couple of days back the date on the voucher changed, no longer showing as 'Book by 22nd July 2021', now showing as 'Travel by 1st Jan 2022'.
Been on the email and phone with Ebookers, they refuse to acknowledge the book before date that was previously shown, instead insisting they have extended the voucher to allow a stay until 1st Jan 2022.
So now find myself stuck with a hotel voucher to the value of £1,160 that has to be used at a particular spanish hotel, that must be used this year, that i cannot let anyone use as the booking has to be done through my account.
I either use it or lose it, and we can't see how we can use it this year.

Just wish there was a way to sell the coupon to someone for £500 and be done with it.
That is really annoying. I know you mentioned earlier that you were able to do dummy bookings for dates in the future (and for other hotels) - with the "new" voucher that is valid only till the end of this year (and specific hotel only), are you able to book future dates or is the voucher not showing beyond that date? I have just tried my Expedia voucher and there is very limited availability showing for the Budapest hotel and I don't seem to be able to use the voucher for a booking beyond May 2021 (which would be the 12 months from the original date of travel).

Damn, never thought to check that!
Nope voucher now cannot be used anytime at any hotel.... now only shows at the same hotel i originally booked and only for dates for this year.
I may have missed a trick with that one.

So stuck with a high value voucher that i can't use... unless they extend it to next year.
(Due to family commitments in caring for elderly parent, we can only get away once a year)

The only other option i think, is there is a website  https://sparefare.net/blog/How_to_Sell_Your_Hotel_Reservation where you can sell booked hotel rooms. It would mean me making a booking, paying the taxes, then hoping i get a bid for the room.

I'm surprised they haven't extended your Budapest voucher, would it be worth your while going on the chat to see if they will extend?

The Budapest voucher does say valid for stays till 1 Jan 2022 - looking at Expedia it looks like the voucher isn't valid for some of the rooms. When selecting other rooms, I get a box saying "Use a coupon" which doesn't show up with some of the rooms. Phew!  Still need to see if Hungary opens its borders anytime soon though.

@jiggy2 I've just been having a further play around, and found that the coupon seems to eligible for any hotel booking, but for this year only.
It seems to let me use it for home and abroad accommodation, just not for next year.
On ebookers is denoted with the green 'coupon eligible'
As you can see, is showing as eligible for others... even in the UK.

Looking at the link - i wonder how easy it would be to transfer an Expedia / Ebookers booking to another person's name. Hotels wont act on instructions from us - they will only take it from Expedia / Ebookers.

I'm pretty sure we can go in to the booking and change the name ourselves.

That might be an option for you then - even though they say can be only used at the same hotel as the original booking. Maybe try and book one night in the UK somewhere local to you, see if it works (as in you are actually able to go and stay) and then use the balance up.

Sorry, i will add that i don't like how payments are by paypal, and they hold it till after the persons stay.... it looks open to abuse, and paypal always side with the customer. If they say they turned up and got refused, there would be no evidence to suggest otherwise and they get their money back and we lose out.

I'm going back to Ebookers now with a complaint.
All through the process they have insisted that the vendor has my money, and it's them that stipulate the validity of the voucher.
I had transcripts of this, including them stating they have asked the vendor, and the vendor refuses.
Well now i have an email from the hotel stating at no time have they intended to collect the money from Ebookers.
So it seems Ebookers have my money, refused the refunds on the reasoning that the hotel has the money, which is not true.
I wonder if i can go any further externally if Ebookers further refuse a refund?
